Was wandering this morning and came across Platinum Pellets for 264.50 per ton. Thoroughbred Feed on East Ave in Saratoga Springs == Next to Fazig Tipton and across Lake Ave from the Flat Track. If you have burned these you know that is a good deal (cheaper than my pre-buy at another dealer). I spoke a bit with the owner and he said he will have these going forward this winter and on. He is new to pellet sales but used his own burning experience to chose these to sell. They are a smallish company it appears and cater to the horse people in Saratoga so quality is important to him. Nice guy, nice operation, and good pricing.
Wow...that is a really good pellet at a great price! I would be a bit surprised if you didn't like them. FWIW: ★★★★☆ - Platinum Wood Pellet (Review) | Firewood Hoarders Club
They are a fine pellet. Used some last year and did a pre-buy from another dealer early summer at 299 a ton. I think they are just below laCrete in quality.
How is the ash, compared to laCrete, in your stove? Loving laCrete here w/ the lighter "fluffier" ash that is keeping the burn pot clean, curious of your thoughts on how Vanderhoofs compare in that regard.
I burned a few bags this year and the burn is about the same as last years (burned a ton). The ash is comparable to Lacrete - a few more fines but well within my tolerance - Slighter cooler but still very hot -- All in all I think the two are about equal with LaCrete having a very very slight edge. However -- These Plats are 55.00 a ton cheaper than LaCrete in my area currently and 35.00 a ton cheaper than my prebuy of both LaCrete and Platinum last spring. That gives them the edge. I also suspect that this, just perhaps, this is a crack in the pricing due to dino pricing. In the past month or so HD has lowered ton prices 20 bucks AND is selling individual bags at the ton price.
Thanks much OST - sounds like another excellent pellet to keep an eye out for / to add to the Vulture list. Having options during burn season is always a good thing, so that info. is much appreciated. Plan on picking up a few test bags when I see them. That pricing you got is excellent: softies in this area are still at a 290 - 320 premium range, McManus Fuels pricing @ 285/ton for LaCretes is the lowest I've found to-date, which is an excellent price, considering the quality of pellet. I suspect there 'may' be some lowering of pricing in this area later in the season, but as of last week, pricing was unchanged vs. Sept./Oct./ earlier in the month. Whether that is due to lower inventory @ the start of the season, transportation costs, or 'biding time' on pricing before the real cold starts to 'wake folks up', who knows. The box stores have the room to keep inventory / wait it out awhile.
Got that covered Dan - Hannafords has Sam Adams 12 packs on sale for 9.99, got a 10.00 coupon on the box, that's like FREE BEER !!! CF's a Happy Guy ! ( Got the Pellets and Beer covered for this week, at least! ) Happy Turkey Day all! Cheers!
