I have the same problem sometimes, and despite what Eric VW might think...they aren't Ruby slippers.:D
Curious how this plays out Dave.

See, slippers are evil and breed complacency.

Nope, the slippers have nothing to do with my complacency. :)

It's sign material. Definitely less than an eighth. It has a little wave in it now.

I'm still looking for a suitable material that I can cut and shape.
Less than an 1/8".....wow, sturdy stuff.

Well, what I was after was that with an angle grinder & a homemade sheet metal brake(with a work bench, a few hinges, and a 2x4), you could do a lot... Unless you want to use 1/4" HRS...

I have one of those I made out of plywood and hinges, when I built my own ceiling box for the wood stove in the pole barn

Ahh, and where would one find such material if one were actively looking?

My hood on my stove is 1/8" if you're not going to put anything on it you wouldn't need it that thick

You could check around find fabrication shop or something to get it from. Seems like I saw some sheet metal at the Home Depot.
This is where I get steel, be a long drive for you though, but they will ship it to you

Probably wouldn't cost that much to have a heating company make you up a sheet metal hood

We've used sheet metal fab shops for HVAC ductwork, but I'll have to check if they do alum. or steel.
I can think of 3-4. Two in Alpena and at least 2 more in Gaylord.
    Thanks for the memory jog.
Dang HDR, you type too fast.
