I think anyone with a lab or Golden will probably appreciate this vid. It pretty is exactly how my Golden is eating next to our german/beagle mix.

From what I have read, a puppy's stomach is more capable of handling bloat than an adult dog. Bloat can be life threatening. The artical I read on a breeders website suggests filling a clear glass halfway with water (as a dogs stomach) and fill the rest of the glass with dry dog food. Immediately, many airbubbles form, as it interacts with the water and expands. Picture this in your dogs stomach. Now this breeder also suggests, and does this with every dog-fill the dog bowl with dry food and then cover the food with water to the top of the food and allow the bubble process happen outside of the dogs stomach before he/she eats it.

I often cook up a whole chicken in a pot with carrots N peas and lots of times cook a nice cut of beef for my best pal and most treasured thing in my life.Venison is a favorite of his but I limit it because of the side effects or should I say backside effects!

I've also read that it can be associated with activity. It is best to not feed right after vigorous activity or allow vigorous activity after feeding for at least an hour.

Staunch rule for us is no food or free access water for an hour after work/hunt/exercise, AND no work/hunt/exercise for at least 2 hours after feeding. That being said, my buddy lost a very highly decorated titled stud dog to bloat and exercise played no role whatsoever. The autopsy confirmed bloat and he had simply been put in a travel crate while the pens were being washed.

Y'all might think I'm crazy but the after feeding routine is front paws up in my lap with some belly rubbing and chest patting, usually gets you a good burp right in the face.

Not sure how, but I accidently trained my german shepard to come over to me and burp after eating. I think my laughing came off like praise? She did it almost her entire 16 years:rofl:

Our 94lb Labradoodle (Captain) had a round with bloat, he occasionally eats so fast that he will vomit up his food a few minutes after. This dog will down an entire steak in one snap if you tossed it to him. :picard:

If you catch it very early, it is possible to save the dog. Don't mess around, take the dog somewhere where they can operate immediately if required. Also stop by the bank on your way home as you should get the paperwork going on the 2nd mortgage required to cover the vet bill. :headbang: image.gif

3 yrs ago, we lost our precious three year old lab to bloat. We we out at 9 Am, came back at 2 pm and found her. I won't go on with the details other than to say it was a tragic loss. Until that time, I didn't even know about bloat. Seems it is more common than we ever knew. Cause and prevention seems vague. What we do know is that it requires rapid intervention or the dog may die from this within a couple hours. :(

Our male lab will gulp leftovers like that, but the female lab likes to take her time. I have to keep the male away form her until she finishes.

You've posted about this a number of times in the past. Your previous post was what brought the condition to my attention. Sorry for the loss of your lab.
