    Hey Snowy Rivers,
This is quite the read here...
I don't spend much time on the pellet threads, but I'm glad I came across your story!
Don't know if it's been asked of you, but one of the new-to-wood burning members needs some clear pics and such of a thru-wall chimney install, and I noticed yours still sticking thru the wall. Would you have any install pics or advice for Kimberly on the wood side of the forum?
Thanks in advance for your response:handshake:

Actually it was not a herculean effort to build the new fan box.

As far as adding silicone "feet" to the mounting, it certainly could be done with ease.

My goal was to reproduce (With a tad heavier material) a good solid replacement part that would fit properly and go right to work.

Adding the "Isolate'rs" won't hurt anything, but when these are assembled properly the little motor/fan is very quiet with only the woosh of air flowing in and around the motor area.

The motor used is an open frame type with a cooling fan sitting between the motor and the exhaust casting and the impeller inside the box/casting area.

Sorry, no pix of the through wall thimble.

These are designed for the pellet stove 3 or 4 inch pipe.

There is an inner and outer thimble with a steel sleeve that slides into the wall and the two fit inside each other.

    Cool.
Actually it is because I own a chicken farm.
40,000 proper free range egg layers. The dog in the pic is Zafer one of our guardian dogs.
6 years ago whe we started dabbling with the stoves we needed to decide what we wanted to do. you cannot run a chicken farm and do something else because with chooks the turnover is huge but the margin is tiny. Taking your eye off the ball to muck around with stoves could cost all the years stove profit in a week if something went wrong with the chooks. I had built and run the chook farm for 20 years and was thoroughly sick of it. I needed a change so we leased the entire business (including my new house:confused:) to a large company as they are all desperate for real free egg farms-lots of cheats out there. We took a massive haircut to do it but now I can tinker full time and at least not starve or worry about something going wrong.
Talking to the national farm manager for the big company, he was complaining about some problems and I said;"well sometimes you have just gotta laugh". His cameback,'well that is why you gave the chooks away - you couldn't stop laughing:rofl: ". They call me the smart chook farmer; I own a chook farmer but have nothing to do with it.:D

Snowy, looking at your fan it looks smaller than what we are using and as it is very much in the open you probably dont get the same level of vibration. The noise is very obvious if it is there. Sounds like you dont have a problem.

I grew up in the city and move to the country in my late twenties. I was maybe 40 when I had my first fresh eggs. Since then I cant buy anything from a store-I buy direct from local farms and people that have maybe a dozen chickens and sell eggs from a cooler on the front yard using the honesty method of leaving the money in an envelope.

We used to sell chook poo on the side of the road for kids pocket money.
We found we got about 50cents on the dollar with the honesty system.
One day I was replenshing the stock and a swish woman in a Lexus pulled up and "oh your poo is so great, we love it, great for the garden, I get it all the time blah blah blah"
Anyway she went over and popped the money in the locked tin (which I had just emptied) and left.
I opened the tin and instead of the 6 bucks it should have been, she had left 75 cents:mad:
I packed it all up took it home and have never done it again.

My fan box is an exact duplicate of the factory unit, other than I built it with heavier materials.

The fan assembly mounted originally with rivets into the venturi ring and the assembly was fastened with sheet metal screws to the fan box.

I tossed the sheet metal screws and the rivet idea.

Located everything then drilled and tapped the holes and used button headed Allen bolts 10-32 standard.

With the heavier metal the threads hold well.

I am not a fan of sheet metal screws in many places, as they rip out over time and servicing the stuff often.

I have 3 stoves in this house and no oaks.

The main air handler in the furnace room has a fresh air blend device that allows a metered fresh air flow into the house to change the air out.

With the stoves running the air changes out regularly and also this sucks out the cooking and other stale smells that tend to accumulate.

I have Oak provision plumbed in under my raised hearth but its capped off on the deck behind the stove with a little plastic cap.

Just don't need the oaks with the fresh air changer.

If we had COLD temps this would be far different.

The reasonable temps we have allow getting fresh air swapping in readily.

A few years ago we had near Zero F for a week and having that extra fresh air took a bit more heat to cover it.
