Over the Holidays i went to visit some family down in Baltimore and my brother in law how loves to cook had a really good kitchen knives set. I helped with the cooking one day and had to cut some meat, and not know anything about knives i just thought it was a great knife. A few says later I sent him a text asking him for the name and model of the knives. I look on Amazon and had a sticker shock moment, again not knowing anything about kitchen knives, I mentioned it to the wife and she too noticed how great his knives were. We decided to give each other the knives for the New Year holiday. Anyone in the market for knives should really look into them.
Nothing like a good set of knives ,makes the job so much easier expensive but well worth the investment .
Up to now I had no idea what a good set of knives was. I cant wait to really put them good use. I should tomorrow, I will hit the Asian fish market and get a nice salmon and try to fillet it.
Those are great knives, but you could have gotten two sets of Ginsu's for 39.95 plus shipping and handling!!
Eaton, I did see the Ginsus and the Henkles but its one of those things that I used something and liked it enough to buy it. Im sure the Ginsu are great but I have never used them so i cant compare, and after using my brother in law's I knew I liked these. But I hear what your saying.
I was joking my friend...That's an awesome set of knives and worth every penny...Many years ago my parents asked me what my wife and I wanted for Christmas, for 3 or 4 years I asked for a good set of knives!! My sister told me my Mom said "I am not paying $200.00 for one knife"...We bought our own!!
Kat, thanks for posting that. I want to get my wife a knife set for her birthday. Is that the 18 PC set? Its $200 on Amazon.
It's all about quality and what your willing to pay sometimes. You see us doing it with other things such as tools and machines, why not in the kitchen too ...My wife has alot of culinary experience and has a nice set of knives too, her tools I say.
Good knives are where it's at. Better balance, easier handling, stay sharp longer. They last forever. When buying make sure that you are getting the knife that you want. Don't mistakenly buy a low end knife from a high end knife makers value line. You'll know you have good knives when you take them with you to a vacation rental because you can't stand using the 'dull as a hoe' knives that are provided.
@JackStraw, The set that I got is the 7 piece which includes the honing tool and the block. What I have noticed from speaking to my wife and my neighbor is that they constantly use one knife for most things so I didnt want to get a set just to get it. So we ended up getting a set that has a good combination of units that we would use. The 8inch chef knife, the 6' utility and the 3 inch pairing knife will get the most use most of the time. I will most likely use the bread one since i make a lot of loafs. So its best to buy a set with units that will get mostly used. Also with the larger sets there is some overlap in knives. But thats just me and im no expert. lol.
When I use to do a lot of cooking I bought some nice Fibrox knives made by Victorinox (makers of the Swiss Army knives). Excellent knives like Wustoffs but not as expensive.
About ten years ago I got some good knives for Mrs TD for Christmas and put them in a gun case and wrapped it. They go everywhere with us
Great job! Those are really awesome knives. With proper care they will last several lifetimes. Now, if you don't know already, learn to sharpen them - no gimmicks, on a stone. That will definitely allow you to get the best from them.
Thanks KatwillNY My wife right now is cutting up venison and I've been trying to talk her into a new set like this. Maybe now I can?!
Wüsthof makes great cutlery. Henkel are good too, but when I needed knives, wüsthof were on sale. Great knives are with the $.
These are the knives I bought all the way back when i was in culinary school! I've had then since.... 20 years now, and try are as good as the day I bought them. Back then, they were $160 For a set, don't know what they run now. Use the steel if you got one.
