New oil tank runs around $2000-3000 installed, OUCH. I could fetch a very recent used oil tank but I have to see if my inspection contact is OK with it. He will make less money if I go that route.

Thanks man. I aggravated an old injury that when it rears its ugly head, I am in for 2-3 days of major pain before it subsides and I am too stubborn (insert stupid) to stay home from work. Tuesday I really wasnt looking forward to 2 hours in a dentist chair (routine cleaning and then a crown placement) but that ended up being pretty conformable on the back.

Tank is roughly$1100, gauge/vent/whistler/filter $300, oil line/cement pads/delivery/inspection rounds it up $2000 to a high of $3000. I'm in Canada so no big competition around to be seen.
    Outside above ground tank.

Does an outside tank require different material? Years ago, a change to some kind of plastic was taking place.

The metal thickness is thicker(12g) than the inside ones(14g)(15yr ). There is a plastic one with metal wrap around(roth?)(20-25yr?) and fibreglass(20-25yr?). ?=approx.

I heard a story about someone in my area who had an indoor oil tank start to leak while they were on vacation. All I can say is 'ouch'. They came back to a heck of a mess. And a bill.

My tank is in the basement. I don't know how long they're supposed to last. After hearing that story, all I can hope for is a long time. It would have to be cut in half to get it out of my basement. If I ever had to replace the tank, I'd probably go with propane.

Some propane furnace doesn't jive with solid fuel add-ons. Just make sure the oil tank is slanted towards the filter and water doesn't pool at the other end causing leakage. Diesel water treatment does magic on water. They make smaller tanks now which fits through a doorway. Oh yeah, the smell doesn't go away, never!

Same here, Brand new system through out the whole house. So far, we only sip the propane. We are cooking with gas, (love it), heating the hot water for 6, and we heat my son's part of the house with it. My part hasn't been hitched up yet. We use our pellet stove. P68. Good thing it has a Stat because it would drive us out with all the heat it makes.

Local oil company around here mistakenly went to the wrong house. Owner had removed the basement oil tank, but hadn't gotten to removing the outside remote fill pipe yet. Hundreds of gallons later........ :faint:
