We got through the windstorm that came through Eastern Washington unscathed. The power in still out, and will be for a couple of days, but our generator is taking good care of that problem. The woodstove is keeping us warm, unlike many who are reliant on electricity. A couple of trees came down, but no damage or significant cleanup needed. One lodgepole pine, and one Douglas Fir, both good firewood. There may be others I haven't seen yet. A friend had a tree come down on his house, so I had the opportunity to help him out clearing it up. My little Poulan PP5020AV did its job. It was running alongside of a Husky 350 and a Stihl of similar size, and outworked them. Of course I had a new sharp chain There should be lots of free / cheap wood on Craigslist in a day or two. Sorry, no pictures. Greg
Good for you helping out your friend. Not everyone knows the importance of it but, We all here know, keep that chain sharp and you're good to go. 40 mph wind here today, some of my tarps were flopping around a little I had to go add more weight. Sure is nice when something like that happens and you have the wood stove to keep you nice and cozy
We are currently under a high wind warning. Til tomorrow night sustained 40 mph with gusts over 60 mph.
WOW 119 mph winds, SCARY ! Glad to made it thru with no damage News showed many trees down, many houses damaged Some were huge trees! Keep your chain sharp, it might see more use !
Hate that. High winds can be so destructive. That is why I don't have trees that can fall on my house. I cut them all down a long time ago. Don't mess the a bit. We are surrounded by trees. Keeping a sharp saw on hand is a necessity if you want to be able to take care of some emergencies.
I did the same thing when I first bought my house as well. I don't like any trees close to the house especially pine...rather be safe then sorry...
That was the same storm system you got about a week ago. I hope we don't get the snow you are getting now! When we first moved in, we had three trees removed by pros, and have never regretted that. There was one they said they were not willing to do (for a reasonable price) and we left that. Last year a windstorm took that one down, it was like the hand of God, it fell so perfectly. Greg
As for me and my house. we are tired of all this wind. Can't say I remember an October and November with so much wind as we've had this year. Screws up the hunting too. Earlier today I was in back on the atv. I went down a lane and when I came back a dead popple had fallen across the lane! However, it was just the top that was on the lane so if it had hit me no harm would have been done except for perhaps one piece of clothing.
Talked to a logger friend just now, he collected $1500 for pulling a tree off of a house, two hours work. A friend of his made $23,000 yesterday doing the same (he had a crane in addition to the usual logging tools). Some may call it price gouging, I say more power to them, they are providing a valuable service to people, and the insurance companies are calling them because they are getting it done at a price they are willing to pay. We are still without power and friends keep inviting us over for warmth, but as I write this it is 74 in the house and 26 out, the woodstove keeps us warm, and the generator takes care of the other needs and wants just fine. No problem here! Greg
I looked at some pictures from that storm man oh man ,your going to have lots and lots of free firewood keep the fire stoked there buddy
