Yep - pretty chilly in NH this morning - woke to 64 in the house and it's about 21 outside - had a small overnight fire, but could have loaded her up a bit more! This has been a great fall in NH for sure! Cheers!

25 degrees at 5:30 am on the coast of Maine on this beautiful day, but the days continue to have highs in the 50s so we still haven't fired off the stove. Using oil as our shoulder season fuel and have probably gone through 10 gallons so far this season in this well insulated and sealed house. Expect to be burning 24/7 by Thanksgiving. Fall has been colorful and warm here, but the hearth is still cold!

Probably a bit over 1/3 cord so far. That will change in the next couple of days by the sounds of things. May even be shoveling some snow.

When I was able to go that far, that's what I did.
It was good motivator to see how the firewood was doing..........several times a day. Obsessive? Of course.:loco: :rofl:

Thanks guys! It's great to be here.

I've been a lurker for a while - I've been up to my eyeballs building a new house for the past year and I'm finally emerging from that project so I'm at last getting to spend time doing the things I really enjoy (that's my excuse and I'm sticking' to it)! I had/have been member of the "other site" for a long time, but it never really felt like a place I wanted to hang out, not a bad place at all, but just not a good fit for me. The more I watched this site the more it's felt like my kinda community - I check in most every day and can recognize most of your avatars from 100 yards out (ok, with a spotting scope!). I am amazed at the "likes" on this board - everyone seems to take the time to be supportive of other posters - who wouldn't want to be part of a community like that?

This place feels like my kind of community and once I figure out how to post pics (and get an avatar and sig. line) I'll get with the program even though I consider myself a card carrying luddite! To answer a few questions:

    1. I'm older than dirt - at least 55 year old dirt.
    2. I've been burning since dad brought home a Fisher Papa Bear new from the factory and have always processed my own wood (until last year when the building project took priority and I ended up burning a lot of sawdust logs). This year 50/50 sawdust and real wood and next year we'll be back to regularly scheduled programming...
    3. I just picked up a Super Split (flywheel with rack and pinion) splitter after running a "Forester" (no longer made in Wisconsin, in fact no longer made anywhere at all) hydro splitter for many years. Just put it together this morning and have a big pile of oak ready to run through it. I like the equipment as much as the wood ;-)
    4. I've gone through a bunch of wood stoves in my burning "career" and am burning in a Keystone (at camp) and a Blaze King Ashford (at home). I'm a diehard catalyic stove fan.
    5. Saws are a Dolmar 5100s, Husky 372xp and a Stihl MS660 (just for kicks, we don't have big timber up here - but don't tell the wife!)
P.S. I collect vintage west coast double bit felling axes.

Building a new house takes up a lot of time for sure but, when you retire you'll be all set.

Just got my SS this spring. Put about 6 cord through it already and love it. I'd like to see pictures of your SS when you get a chance.

Welcome. Yep, this is a good place to be and share ideas/thoughts/pictures.
