I just built a top down fire using dried corn stalks as the fire starter. It seems like pretty good kindling to me. Anybody else try it?

What about the dried cobs also??!!

Could they be bound tight enough for decent fuel??!!

Corn cobs is how my grandpa always started fires. I remember 20 years ago sitting in the den with him and he would grab a few cobs and use them to light the fire.

I think I remember hearing of some old timers dipping the corn cob in kerosene that was kept around in a glass jar for just such purposes. Probably used to light up that "seasoned" farwood that was just cut down a couple months ago

I've heard of them but never looked them up, but that sounds like a terrible idea, burning grass? Tell I'm I'm wrong?

You can bale cornstalks as well. There's supposedly a biomass electric plant being built here in southwest MO. They've contracted with farmers within a close proximity to grow a special grass for that purpose. The real question is whether or not its cost effective.
