Big fan of the 25-06. I hunt in Md though so I use a 12 gauge. I kinda like big heavy bullets.

Where we live in Ohio it is Shotgun only (opened to certain rifle calibers/the 45-70 probably being the best choice is using a rifle).

I use a 20 gauge or my muzzleloader. The muzzleloaders these days are pretty comparable to a decent rifle.

I wish I would have bought a 20 instead of a 12, but that was in my younger days and I've grown partial to my H&R and my 870.

Your 260 and my Swed are quite close. Both pushing 264 sized projectiles down range with great BCs. Your 260 is pushing 120g at about 2600 fps, 160g at 2300. My swed (an unissued 1942 one, so I can load it full normal charge) does 120g at about 2450, 160g at 2150 fps. Great caliber bullet out of either gun!

Dex's 25-06 would push a few thousandths smaller 120 grainer at about 2750 fps!

My old man taught me the same. I hung a set on our gun opener Sunday. :) Makes me smile to this day and can't wait to teach it to my son who is 6.

    Tell the young man congrats!

Awesome Dex, can't beat the memory of a first deer. The excitement is great and the joy of spending it with family is second to none. Congrats
