smells so good! I just did a reload and took the dogs outside while I waited for everything to get up to speed in the stove and I was enjoying the smell of wood smoke and thought I would share. I wish I had some cherry to throw in there that stuff smells really good.
Love that smell Hickory is a good one too. Birch not a good smelling wood, acrid smell. But is the best I got & it has Good heat output
Earlier in the season I burned off the first wood I'd ever scrounged - a small fraction of a cord from a red elm that had been dead for quite a while before I got to it a year or so ago. To me it smelled like a sort of archetypical wood smoke, like a memory of the first campfires and fireplaces I ever smelled. I've been burning a variety of other stuff since then, including cherry, but none of it has hit the spot the way the red elm did. Go figure.
I also like the non-smoke smell when I'm outdoors downwind of the chimney and the stove is burning clean and hot. It smells kinda like what ... steam? It smells like nothing much. The one wood I don't enjoy the smoke from is black locust. The smoke from BL bark seems stinky to me. Everything else brings good memories.
