I finished off filling the basement today, with some oak I wanted to leave out as long as I could. Time is running out before it snows. I figured I might as well get it done today. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

4*1/2 face there, which gives me a total of 15 in the basement. There's 16 in the shed and 3 stacked next to the bilco doors. I should be good for the season.

I only burn wood, propane backup if I go away, but my house is old. Insulation is poor in the attic and I need a few new windows. I burned 34 face last year :picard:

I've been replacing windows as finances allow. Insulation this spring.

    Great job:yes: Couple of questions

What's in first pic top left under cable cord? small firebrick? Future project..

I also see you put wood straight on concrete.. is Woodstove in basement therefore it doesn't win water?

Please don't take as criticism consider you to be very planned out type of person.. just like to learn from others...

Those are blocks of hardwood that were here when I bought the house. I throw a few in the fire every so often. Not sure why they had them. That was stacked to the ceiling when I move in!! Yes furnace is in the basement. Zero water down there. Even during the spring thaw the floor only gets wet enough just to say it's wet.

Great job I read somewhere that insulating basement walls was more effective then attic if raw concrete. Can't tell because there's a lot of wood in there but thought I would mention it:yes:

Just trying to help a guy out. that's in the 10 plus cord situation. Been there hoping it is less this year

That's a fine indoor stash RParrotte! Neat and clean too, as my wife pointed out!
Wish we could stuff like that in our basement, but she would say "nay, nay!"

Have you looked into window out let stores for windows? We have one 13 mile east of my and I replaced ALL of my windows in my house for less than cheap . Had about 12 windows , we cut it down to 7 total in house by going to 48x48 double windows in stead of 2 24x 48 next to each other. We got them for as little as 15.00 each up to 120.00 each for the 2 doubles. Less than 500.00 for all. Then go to a store like home depot and ask about busted bag insolation . We did our attic in 10 inch. We now have a layer of 6 inch then across the top 2 rows of 10 inch, so we now have 26 inches in the attic. We got all the 10 inch all 1/2 off. Then we have 1 inch foam on the outside, bought a couple sheets at a time with busted corners and so on. These was 85% off. We have all less that 500 in that also. We have about all the r-19 for the floors bought the same way. I need a couple more bags/rolls then will start tears up floors to insulate them. Again for the cheap side too

It'll dry even better now if you have a duct blowing onto the woodpile. Nice pails of kindling too, same as I use.
