Went down to the P's on Monday afternoon; as they like driving me to Midway Airport so that I can fly to FL and spend 2.5 days "shoeing horses". Twas mid '50's when I left, and prior to leaving, I was only lighting a small load in the stove around supper time to keep the chill out of the house overnight. Well it got a fair bit cooler/colder upon my arrival back yesterday/Thursday evening.....................The P's picked me up at the airport, and the 18 miles back to their house took 1.5 hours!!!!! Because of that; I decided to spend the night there, rather than drive home. Anyhow; I had a "guiding" gig set up for today, and I left my P's at 5:30am to drive to pick my pooches up at the kennel and head over to where I was "guiding" some pheasant "shooters"!! It just above 32*F when I leave and just drops below freezing the further North I get.....................to get dogs etc. Long story short; I didn't turn on my natural gas furnace before I left for FL. After all the hunting/guiding was done today, when I got home the outside temperature was 44*F........................the temperature in my stove room/livingroom was 57*F. It's up to 71*F in the stove room now.................but the rest of the house will take a while.
Been there a couple times when we left for a day long visit downstate. I remember the house being about 55. Took a couple minutes for the walls, furniture, books, and all to warm up.
of course as a land lord I have had tenants leave basement doors open and freeze every pipe including heating lines Thanks always a fun day of playing plumber and chasing leaks
Then prolly complain there's no running water or heat. I don't see a choking smiley. This one'll have to do.....
how did you know. I don't get a call saying I left door open... I get a call the house is freezing why does heat not work?!?
57 in the house time to pull out the long johns man I remember a couple of days last winter I woke up in the morning it was 59 in the house Probably the fastest speed I ever did, getting my long johns and clothes on buddy
I bet you're lovin that stove right about now! I let mine go out this morning as there was no one in the house. Yesterday we didnt get above 32 but now there is a warm front moving through with lots of rain and were at 41! House is an arctic 69 so its time to fire the 27 up! I think I have a chill from working in the wet snow, rain and wind today. I know how to fix that!
My oil tank does not have a gauge on it, and I often forget to stick it to check the levels. For the longest time, we were always bouncing off the bottom. In 2002, my daughter went back into the hospital at the time of the Superbowl with the Pat's in it. The day after the Pat's won, I ran out of oil. When I got home from work the house was freezing. I want to say the living room was a balmy 40's. Thankfully the family room had the wood stove. I put my son in there for the night, and I slept in our bedroom. It was downright cold in the room, but I was warm under the covers. Thankfully the wife stayed overnight with my daughter. Unfortunately that happened more than once over the years. Now I keep the tank full.
The weather gods are calling for 60*+F on Sunday.................and for highs in the mid 50's the first part of next week. Still ain't gonna hit that NG furnace switch...............
I guess the reason it was cold in the house this morning was because we left the window open till midnight. We don't mid the cold.
We were gone from home for several days and when we got home earlier this week the house was at 52 or somewhere around there. First thing I did when entering the house was to get the fire going. Didn't take very long to get it comfortable again though.
