Not to be outdone by all you other folks sporting your new toys, this big box was waiting for me when I got home yesterday. Bet you that none of you GUYS has one of these! Drum roll please: I'm a man of many talents! My old garage sale 1953 Singer just couldn't cut it any more! Need to put a new 30" zipper in my favorite old fleece jacket.
Nice Machine Boog!!! Although I was expecting something else A man of many talents is something to be proud of. Many times I wish that my box of talents included sewing. Congrats!
Ha, Ha, I have to tell you I took a course at the Vocational Tech school when I was younger and needed to reupholster some furniture. Money was very tight with school tuition, orthodontists, etc. I bought an older singer. A real tough model that can saw through leather and thick cloth. I redid two couches, both with recliners, and I did a lazy boy over. Then I did new boat seats. About the only time I run a machine now is to fix a rip in my pants. I'm a big guy and my pants are hard to get so I try to keep them repaired for as long as I can. My problem now is my eyesight. Trying to thread the needles is time consuming. From what I remember, nearly all the others in my class were men.
I do not need one my wife has about 8 sewing machines. Sometimes I get to thread them or adjust or repair them. She has a difficult time figuring out the Serger. I did make some sand bags once for bench shooting from an old pair of jeans. Congrats on your new machine.
My EX-wives had machines too, expensive ones like that Serger. I've helped pay for a bunch of machines in my life!
I actually think being able to do some sewing is a good skill to have. I have made some covers for my air conditioner that sit outside and I made one for the Honda generator. There are other projects I have done also. It is not always about mending your clothes. So sew on.
I taught myself last year, just some basic patches on jeans. I have a good half dozen sweatshirts waiting on new zippers. Is it easy Boog ?
No, it doesn't look easy, it will be my first zipper attempt! I was thinking of taking a short cut on it and NOT removing all the current stitching and old zipper. I was thinking about just cutting the zipper off where it meets the fabric and sewing the new zipper against the inside surface. It would look fine from the outside, and I could care less about the looks on the inside.
So last night the big brown truck delivered my latest goody. No, it is not a saw or a sewing machine. For me it is a new RO drinking water system that I still need to install in my new home's kitchen. The best deal I found on one was from Aquasafecanada. Note, the prices they quote are in Canadian currency so you can figure you will get about a 1/6 discount just by buying in American currency.
I bought my machine when I built this bike and I had to make the seat and headrest , back of the seat is made from plastic mesh called cat screen, had to have a heavy duty needle for that.
