Success!!! After all these years I finally created a meringue topping that looks right. Got tips from Eggs 101 - How to Make a Meringue - Eggs.ca Most important I found was letting the egg whites get warm. here's the pic

Got the shop cleaned. Hopefully will have a deer in there Saturday. If not...I took on 3 paying woodwork projects today for the winter. A driftwood mantle....a small table....and a door that has shelves. Busy busy.

    Looks awesome:drool:
Another tip put your mixing bowl in the freezer for a while, somehow it helps the fats & proteins "peak" easier.
Going to have to dig out that "forgotten cookie" recipe from my mom

Been battling some health issues lately, colitis and salmonella that spread to my blood. Finally starting to feel better after a month and a half. Very little income generated on my part, disability payments are slow as molasses in winter. Thank god for my wife, she picked a second job or we would be majorally in the hurtbag. Been splitting wood the last couple of days for my neighbor who runs a campground, generous guy, paying well. But the clutz I am, I stumbled on a pile of splits and hurt my wrist. Large bump on my wrist, doesn't hurt too bad but the wife is convinced I broke my wrist. I'm due to go back to work next week, so I'm just going to see how the wrist feels in the next couple of days. I can't financially swing being off much longer, so its going to have to heal on its own. Done whining now, thanks for listening!

I started some demo in the downstairs bath, this is one of the last rooms in the house to have horsehair plaster and no insulation. After taking the lathe down I found a bird nest and 2 wasp nests, both at least 10 years old. Anyways, I'm nearly down to bare bones and close to ready to do some framing and electrical before insulating. Good timing, the warm weather is hanging around still.

Done a couple bathrooms where there was no insulation in the outside wall......which is right where the tub/shower was. :shiver:
    Not super old houses either.

That probably felt like the bricks they use to put in the walls. They may have helped stop the wind But once it got down below zero for a while they had to stay :shiver:

I helped my neighbor on a demo project in his dining room. The exterior wall cavities had newspapers nailed in them from 1899 if I recall. We read a bunch of them, including the medical remedies advertisements. There were a few old bottles and a child's vest from that time period hanging on a nail in one cavity, that was creepy.

The floor had a large wood medallion made of cuts of wood that looked like a compass. It was made with SYP, walnut, maple and oak. It had water damage and would have been a total restoration. He did have a large paper wasp nest one the cavity.

The early homes in this area from the late 1600's had brick and clay in the walls.
