When you say he's sharpening them, I assume you mean he's grinding them? That's a good price for grinding. The local store here charges $7/chain....

I'm too attached to my 026, and I didn't need both.

if you rent one hd have them start and run before you leave, They are not real good on keeping them up to snuff other than sticking a new chain for each time it is rented. They also sell the used units every so often- about $250 for a 60cc pro saw, but it might take a bit of tinkering to get it back in top form

Really I think so..o_O:emb: they go in dull come back sharp.. 6 to 8 times sharpening they are worn out and I buy 2 new ones. it's rather embarrassing but I my opinion. they are good chains.... last til I hit taps or barb wire.... and 50 bucks gets me 10 sharpened chains and 2 new ones so it ain't broke so I don't fix it

Let me predict the future for you. First you get a medium sized saw that you can do everything with-the 290 that you already have. Next you are going to get a pro saw and the 290 will be backup. Here comes the 562 or 362 etc. Now you are hearing lots of great things about the smaller saws. Enter the 550xp or a 262. Or maybe a 545 that will 'save' you lots of money. A couple of months after you get the 50cc saw it and the 60cc saw seem rather similar in size so you will need a bigger saw in the 80cc range. You aren't sure exactly why but it seems like a good idea. Saws are like guns-there always seems to be one missing from your collection.

Unless you don't have a place to put your wood! Then there is a problem!

You should probably get a top handle saw. And a 90Cc saw. And a 70. Probably a 50 too. Then get them all ported.

I'm a firm believer in the 2 saw plan .................... a primary saw and a back up one for every size range! :picard:

Dang , I got get me a couple more- missing back ups on the 33,50,122cc units. course have void on the 40+cc range and kinda a big jump between the 80's and 122 so need a filler there also.

    OP,

    Get real!

Your one saw serves you well. Just think how much better you would be served if you never had to fuel or sharpen a saw in the woods.:smoke:

Like a bass fisherman switching poles because it has a different bait. Just grab another saw out of the arsenal so you don't have to waste time gassing or sharpening.

    CAD, it's how it begins.

I have a MS 461 and love it. It is a monster compared to the MS 310 I have. A bit pricey, but will not create the feeling of needing a bigger saw. Just my opinion. :dex:

For me a 460 was the point at which 'big enough' tipped over into 'this is silly,' except for milling purposes. That extra pound or so over the 044 made a real difference.

Well that 122c c 084 comes in handy when things are in the 4'+range dia. I well remember busting my tail on some 4ft hickory about 4 years ago with a 32" bar on the 7900. Break it down to rounds and then 1/8 that so I could get it out. Super soft ground couldn't get in with anything mechanized. Even the 2 wheel wheel barrow was hanging up. That hickory is this seasons heat.

I could see that, but as a city dweller I have:
    1. No large piece of wooded land to maintain
    2. More wood available than I need, and therefore no reason to mess with a 4' hickory.
