Its definately a plus to know how to drive a stick. Its also better to do it on your own without pops there to see you screw up

Regarding a 6 sp CVT-how does a constantly varying transmission have gears/"speeds" classification? To me it should be "infinite speeds"-or is it a marketing thing that people an relate to?

Its still the Lineartronic® CVT But they have a 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Gives the stick feel from a CVT from what the dealer said. I haven't done much research on it as I am leaning towards manual myself.

So far everything we have done together has been fun and easy. I'll at least show him the ropes and then hand him the keys.

If he wants me to tag along so be it. :)

Good plan. I taught my ex's son this way-she was way too jumpy with him so I took over. Just sat back, got him on the highway and through a busy traffic circle and if he needed advice, gave it calmly. He did well enough that he didnt need much. This was with an automatic. I helped him get his first car where he paid half-that was a standard. He got the basics and then taught himself, same way I did way back when.

I looked at some used Legacies, but it just didn't make sense. Was looking at lower mileage units, a few years old, and their prices were not really as low as I would expect. Factor in the reduced warranty on used, not getting my color and options, as well as a nebulous user history, I went to new, and got a MUCH better rate thru Subaru....who uses Chase, for financing......almost the same payment for used or new....

Yea, my 2016 has paddles, but haven't messed with them much. I wanted manual, but it's not available in the US.

Kind of what I'm finding. I might just go new as its only a lil more. And like you said better rate on the new if financed through them. I have other finance choices if I do find a sweat used one.

Still months away from anything just yet. Testing the waters, Lil chilly just yet..

So you like your Legacy and the CVT?

I cringe at the thought of a new vehicle-and the payments that are looking more and more like a rent payment use to be

So far, so good. You're not gonna win any drag races, but it's been years for me, and I am old now.....one thing seems to be common tho........a little hesitation when going from reverse to forward.....in biggie, it seems a Subaru thing.
I loaded this Legacy, with GPS and all that.....big step up from the ole Camry! I purposefully didn't get Eyesight though.....didn't want all kinds of warnings when I change lanes or tailgate someone. :D

There are 2 things that I want factory installed after having them in my current and last vehicle.
    1 GPS
2 Backup Camera-a must for any suv/pu truck and the aftermarket cameras that mount somewhere are too easily damaged.

Yup....got both, and like them. Having a Class A license, I am more a mirror guy, but the rear cam is nice. Good in low light, located just above the license plate.
It's weird talking to the car though....tell it to raise temp, change the radio station, find a song on my iPod, or call my girlfriend at work.
So far, so good.....and AWD for the price of most similarly equipped 2wd

Yeah the talking to the car-mine has that and I never use it. Same here with mirrors-but a quick check to see if someone or something is right behind you is nice. Parking in Boston and seeing your bumper's corners and exactly how close you are to that Mercedes you are trying to squeeze against is priceless

Wait until you are yelling and cussing out the chick on the bluetooth when you say "Call girlfriend" and she replies "star, three two" or something just as stupid.

Been ok, so far, but still new. You know you're getting old when you want a reliable unit rather than a fire breathing monster.

Back in 2010 I looked into used Silverado and Avalanches, hoping to find a nice LTZ. Even the non LTZ that were 5 years old and 50-60K miles on them were over $30,000  :headbang:
