Was out hunting this morning. Realized I have a ton of beech trees. Its a good and bad thing. I love burning and processing beech. Downside is they are tough trees and do not blow over or rot much. I don't like to drop trees for no reason so they stay for now lol.

There is one that is hung up in another beech was thinking about how to get it down safely this morning.

I'd look for Beeches that are crowded and drop a few to create space for the ones left standing. That way you are dropping trees in the interest of forest management, not dropping trees for no reason

I agree with Wood Duck. I was out in my woods over the weekend and took down a few red maples to give my hickory's room to grow.

And I thought I was the only one who thinks about trees, forestry, cutting firewood, etc. when I'm out hunting...

Both of my tree stands are in a beech or behind one. They provide great cover.

Those look like fairly young beech but believe me, they will rot as they grow. I've seen plenty of them rot when they are only perhaps 16" diameter and for sure when they get over 30" many will rot but you don't always see it until you start cutting into the tree. I recall one time we logged off a woods of mainly beech and was amazed at how many rotten trees we found; hollow in the center but still alive. Great places to find coons! Bad part is that yellow jackets love to nest in them too. Not so much fun then.

I do agree with thinning them. Also, they make great deer food! Good luck on the hunting. As I sit here typing, there are 2 does bedded in the path by our house. They should be getting up before long now.
