Dennis, when you get caught up, can you tell us anything about specs of the new stove that you may know. One selfish question I have is the rear exit center line of the new stove; was hoping for 22.75 as both Fv and PH have that. Thanks.

They never could be annoyed with you and your questions Tony! It was great seeing and talking with you again.

I have to agree that these things are built very solid. I was able to watch some things being done, some people hard at work and they are impressive. Of course this is not the final design of the stove and I'm certain many more changes will be made before this hits the market.

Can't say too much about specs except to answer your question. Yes, it will match the FV and PH or as you've seen, it can have a higher exhaust exit. It can also be either top of rear exhaust. 16" wood will be the most ideal for this stove. The firebox is between the size of the Fireview and the Ideal Steel. At present, the emissions test shows less than 1.0. Still aiming for less!

At present, all the soapstone is inside the firebox and there is quite a bit of it there. Not sure if there will be some side panels with the stone or not and I don't believe decisions have been made there yet. I doubt if there will be on the top though. The front could change a bit yet too.

No doubt you will be very happy with that Fireview for many, many moons!

On the "artistic metal stuff," much of that will be optional no doubt and I think even the wings will be optional. I also think the future will see more steel and steel/soapstone mix. I doubt we'll see the steel surrounded with soapstone in the future as you've mentioned but who can predict the future with accuracy? More specs and operating details will come out as time passes. We must remember these are only beta stoves and not the final product. I do love the draft control and think most will welcome it.

But 16" will be the ideal length of wood for this stove.

You definitely left too quickly! Would have loved to had more time but appreciated that you came. Yes, time can be the enemy indeed.

That's great news. Was locked out of even considering the IS because of my thimble height limitations. Glad to have the option of upgrading to the New Franklin (NF) or PH if ever necessary.

This is a good point on the height. With the Fireview, we built the hearth up 16" and that provided us with perfect height. We have a chair right by the stove. When I bring in wood, it is laid on the hearth then, like splitting wood, I sit!!! Putting wood in then is at perfect height.

Brian, even Tom noted that there was one particular person missing from the open house! Yes, we talked about you but I won't say if it was nice or nasty!

I was almost ready to drive to your house and kidnap you Brian. Next time, you will go!

i would prefer a square design but the wings are handsome in their way. the tall leg jotul looking stove has it going on. all neither here nor there. the franklin does look noticeably smaller than the IS. for my money bigger is always better as the size and weight hold heat.
whatever technical accomplishments they have achieved will sooner or later be offered in a large stove. this is a moving target IMO. wait 5 years and see where things are then.

Glad you made it home Ok Dennis! Great to see you and Judy again! Also good seeing the rest of the FHC people there! Old hippie didn't look like a hippie at all! Aside from almost hitting a turkey at 70 MPH Darrin and I had a good ride back and Jon snuck out quiet as a mouse.. All in all a good time was had!

I'm hoping it looks something like their Franklin gas stove. Definitely needs soapstone on the outside for the wife to approve.

I agree, I think they really stumbled on a cool design there. I sent a note to Tom today and told him I liked it. I almost bought a mint condition (but cheap) Jotul 404 last year just for back up. Different kind of stove but if you look at pictures you'll definitely see the resemblance.

I've been burning some short (14 - 16") wood during this mild weather and about all I can say for it is it makes for light armloads when I'm bringing it in. I would think an 18" stick would work well in a 20" box.

Jotul 404 was a small wood cook stove.

    Compared to the plain Franklin:

If you fabbed a small oven to hang under the stove instead of an ash pan between those long legs, like the bun oven wood stoves, I wonder how hot it would get?

If they created one like that with a cook top, otherwise plain Jane and cost conscious, I'd buy it.
