I did ribs in my smoker this summer with a mix of Apple that I pruned out of my orchard and cherry uglies I had left from the log load I got and they were hard to beat...As for the ash it was a casualty from the tractor and brush hog haha but the AB is here too pretty heavy unfortunately

Horizontal with a log lift is the only correct way to split

I added my own log lift to a horizontal splitter and it is the only one I have used so I can't recommend one. You're welcome to try it out some time if you like. I'm only 45 minutes or so north of you.

That sounds like a plan. One of these weekends I'll come by to try it out. Which model do you have

I have an iron and oak 30 ton and I made my own log lift for it. You can get an idea if a log lift is something you want or you prefer a vertical splitter. Personally, I don't like working down on the ground with a vertical splitter. Hurts my back.

I prefer horizontal as well, that's why I got the DR rapid fire, if it would have a log lift it would save me more time, the big rounds that I can't pick up I have to cut in half with the saw but even then they are really heavy..the iron and oak is a beast, a friend rented a 26 ton and that thing ripped thru everything that was knots and all. I gotta come see you one of these weekends to see your machine.. we will touch base on what works for both of us

Looks like a solid day. Very good score. I'm off tomorrow so hopefully I can get after a couple trees that have been eluding me all year at one of my honey holes. I have been putting off draining and storing my saws just because of these two cherry trees; it's a sickness I tell you.

It sure was. This is what we live for. The weather here looks like rain till Thursday. Gonna try and get that wood this weekend so I can start stacking it for 2017 / 18 once I'm done there then have to go get some walnut rounds and take a maple down at same place, good luck tomorrow, I never drain the saws especially during the winter, that's when I keep busy, love working in the cold

Nice score! Nice pile for the amount of time spent too! Love the recycled timber frame for stacking on - was that from an old barn? Looks beefy!
