We just recently got a new buck stove and hubby built the first fire of the season couple weeks ago. Well we had another cold snap one morning and my husband was in bed. So I decided I would build the fire myself...I have built fires before in our old fireplace..how hard can this be? suddenly heard me open the stove door and he leaped out of bed to take over?? He said he needed to teach me how to do it correctly ?? This seems a little like an insult to me..what do you all think?
Meh, it's a guy thing...we build the shelters, hunt the food, and make the fires...(much grunting and chest beating here) And then a noise woke me up, my wife was tending the stove
Next time, take a cast iron skillet with you and sit down beside you while you tend the stove. Keep it within arm's reach. He'll get the message.
And after awhile, no doubt he will be grateful you are starting/stoking so he can sleep in!! Hang in there girl!
We can light fires but just do it differently than men. the results are the same - a cosy fire to watch and be warm by.
I am pleased that Hotmama wants to build the fire. My wife would add wood, but never wanted anything to do with starting a fire. I wasn't one to be sick, so we did ok, but it could have been a problem.
We have been struggling for a few years now that I am not able to help like I could, to hire help. My and chest beating, labor grunting husband is having a terrible time letting go now that he is carrying a much larger load is, Aaaaaaaah. Men
I agree that there is a little more science to using the stove as apposed to the fireplace. I will continue to learn. I want to be able to do it when my husband is not home.
Bingo Wildwest! My wife is up earlier than I. I have the late shift and she has the early shift. She reloads in the morning and during shoulder season will also build her own top down fire when Im at work. Her work with the stove is a great help in keeping us warm in the winter.
Well, I'm o expert on Buck stoves but some of them are catalytic. There is a learning curve and some strict rules to follow. Besides that you were playing with his new toy the territorial thing will wear off soon and he will learn to share. So, what did he teach you?
I had to learn wood placement and proper airflow....which I understand in order to burn efficiently ....
