And thought I'd ask for advice.
Rough openings are all 44"x 60". Not exactly a stock size.
I looked at the Anderson 400 series. The sooner I can order these, the better, as I can put 'em in before it gets too cold.
    So, fire away.

If you need wood interior windows your looking at right thing...

if Vinyl I would call window world.... About 275 any size, all windows made to your size... installed, energy star, lifetime warranty.. go in all buildings.... except my house as no vinyl in it and looks stupid

Wife just mentioned this morning she'd like the wood interior, so yep....I was looking in the right direction.
Full screens and the ability to open top or bottom for airflow. The dogs try to go out the slider screens.:headbang:

Then if an off size and you get closest size to your opening.... I hope you got an assistant as that's about what I have and they are heavy!

I have the 400's in a lot of my windows. I like them a lot. Care free exterior, double sash tilt for cleaning. Parts should be available for a long time if needed. They made a huge difference in reducing drafts. I was also very particular on the installation, caulking every nook and cranny.

My only complaint is that the screen is one piece covering the whole window.

I have Harvey replacements in one room because of all the original woodwork. They have split screens.

The recycling can is just outside mudroom window. We can open the window and put the recycling in. It would be a pita to remove the screens every time. I am thinking of fabricating a half screen for the top so we can let air in the top sash and keep the bottom screen-free.

Also window air conditioners. We need to store the screens for the summer when the ac's are in place. Just a little more work.

The screens on the 400's are very well built I will say.

I have made wood dividers for the top sash. It is called "cottage style" when the top sash is divided into two lites. The bottom is full glass no dividers. I am not crazy about a lot of dividers.

Closest I could get are a little over 2" too small in both directions. Next size up was slightly too big.
I'll decide what to do when they get here.
Oh, and I'm volunteering my brother and nephew again as helpers. As usual, they don't know it yet.:D

If you like glass...ever think about going casement?? Mine are Anderson and about 6 high. With your width you would need a double, if they make them that size.

Keep makin' the popcorn. The windows were special order, so I don't expect 'em here for at least 3 weeks.
Casements are the bomb for sealing, but "the wife unit", AKA "the boss", prefers double hung windows. So, there's that.
Nice room, but I'm wondering why the carpet isn't black. Isn't your Lab shedding? Ours seem to shed all year. I'm surprised they aren't bald by now.

    eatonpcat,
Looks like your best friend likes that room too. I know he/she likes the the fact that the window is nice and low to the floor so that he/she can look outside.
Probably you are "grandfathered in" but if one is changing out a window that is that low to the floor the glass should be tempered. So, if a little one tries to pound on it, it won't break and cut them. Just an FYI.
But, I agree your decorator is firing on all cylinders.

Nice, my lab has our low glass covered with nose smudges within a day of my cleaning it!

    Thanks...she does her best.

Hope I am grandfathered on the tempered glass...floor to ceiling windows in living room, dining room and den.
