I have never even heard the term face cord till I got involved in a couple of these wood burning/stove forums. And everyone that brings it up seems to be from back east, so I am assuming it is a east coast thing

It is not an east cost thing. Wood is only sold by the cord here. It is actually illegal to sell wood in VA any other way.

Good read... 6 months for air drying?.... What's your take on that statement?

Wood can dry out a lot in 6 months but, it depends on how it is cut, split, stacked, when it was cut, and the type of wood.

Na, I heard it years ago and actually the first time in Oklahoma. It was deemed the amount the some folks could stack on their "patio, walkway, etc"… to bring in the house for burning. Usually a couple nights worth, maybe a week. It really doesn't have a measurement but "usually" is the length and height of a full cord but just one row of rounds or splits. Thats the way it was explained to me, I don't know if thats correct, I've never found it anywhere. :)

The term face cord is thrown around WNY a ton. You call someone for a cord of wood and I bet 80% of the time you go pick it up its a face cord. I'm like " ok, where's my other two face cord then?".

I can add a measly 6 cord to the total.

Have you checked to see how long it takes different types of wood to dry?

What is a cord of wood ?
It is a 128 cubic feet which ever way you stack it

The terms we use here on the forum are a cord , 1/2 of a cord, a 1/3 of a cord, 1/4 cord etc.

What is a face cord ? Everyone in Michigan knows this and many call it a cord when they actually only have a face cord
1/3 of a cord , 16" long pieces stacked 4' high x 8' long , If the splits were 15" long it would be less than a face cord, longer than 16" would more than a face cord .
    3 face cord = 1 full cord = 128 cubic feet
