If some of you remember the post I said something like more than I will ever need. Here is the tree that I have been getting the hickory from. See pictures of the split hickory , poplar, hedge and hard maple. Then see the picture of the hickory tree. There is at least 2/3+ cord left in limbs yet to be c/s/s before I can get to the trunk. I ran a tape around the trunk about shoulder to me and it was almost 9 foot around. I ran a tape up to the long limb and it was 15 feet off the ground. So I am guessing about 25 feet of trunk. There is going to be at least 4 cord out of this one tree. I ran 4 splits in the stove the first night it got down to 30 one night and had to open a couple windows with a good burn time and lots of coals, got about 6 hours of good heat out of the 4 splits[ about 3x3x16] . Picture 1 is before split of hickory-maple and poplar. Picture 2 -3-4 is hickory- maple -poplar split and stacked waiting on a rack. Picture 5-6 is the hickory tree with my body next to it I am about 6 foot.
Jealous. Great score. Never burned any hickory. I'm sure when I was a kid we burned it but don't have any in my own stacks. That's a huge trunk, be careful. Looks like a lot of aide open space though.
Spent much time recently clearing big shagbark blowdowns. Seismic events on hitting the ground. Moved some of it home so far- c/s/s a year's worth or more. Now to arrange help in getting the bulk of it out, among lots of other things. Pictures of shagbark splits are pure porn.
