Stihl 015T for $50.....

    And she's like BRAND NEW. Original bar and chain, looks like it may have been used only a handful of times EVER. Virtually no paint loss and still has the original case...... Did I do good?

    For those that have never owned or run one of these old top handled beauties, these saws had a boatload of grunt in a tiny package. I have around 8 of them in various states of condition, I've climbed with them for many years and they are tried and true legendary saws.......

    Nice saw for sure! There are a few around at my local shop, but I've never had the pleasure of running one.

    You won't be disappointed! Honestly, I hold it with high regards. It's probably got more balls than any top handle made today, the downside is its a little heavier and it doesn't have a chainbrake. Plus the 1/4 pitch chain was kinda risky to run. But there are 3/8 conversions (I have three saws with it) to make it compatible with modern bars and chains.....

    For some reason those old saws dont hold value like the newer old saws? Even the 011 I have just doesnt hold value. But its got lots of power as well...it is heavy though.

    I have two top handle 011 one is a parts saw with bad lower end and an 011 rear handle in almost perfect condition. I just need to straighten a few things out and get it running right.

    The 015's hold value quite a bit better than others. Rarely can find one in running condition for less than 100 bucks, this one is in barely-used condition.

    I've beaten the pizz out of several 015's, and the only breakdowns I've ever had were fuel lines and crank seals......

    Well the ones I am thinking hover around $99-125 but I always think that is cheap for a stihl I guess.

    I'm going to go ahead and order a carburetor kit and new fuel line for it, get her ready for service. I'll also make a tie-off lanyard for it so I can clip it to my harness. I'll have to post some tree pics with her.

    Very nice score! I love those little saws and that's a great deal. I've flipped several of them over the years (none of them in that good of condition) and I easily get $100-$125 for them.

    And you're right, for the size they cut great. The modern day version MS150T hangs it's head in shame running next to an 015...

    So what was the problem with the 1/4" chain? I have an 020AVP project with a 1/4" setup.

    Not really any,"problem".....they're just reportedly a little more wicked in regards to kickback if you bump the nose....

    I've never had any issue with it. I'd say it may be an issue with someone who's not accustomed to running chainsaws regularly, so I'd reason to say that most of our members here wouldn't have any issue with it.....lol

    Let me pull it out tonight. Any interest in any other 015's? I think I still have a couple here. Somewhere I have the saw and trimmer manuals as well.
