I cannot believe that neither Home Depot nor Lowes have any selection on it?
I was looking for clear amall tube and a black one.
    Lowes has one red color.

Local hardware will most likely have Rutland clear and black.

Both Ace and true value do.

I will check Ed'd hardware later today, meanwhile this morning I bought a 'regular' clear silicone that states it holds temps up to 400F. Should that one be ok?

Got it from a local lumber hardware supply.

I ordered mine on the internet. It's HomeSaver brand, black and says 500*

TSC carries the Rutland high temp silicone, and any stove shop should have some as well. I prefer the really small tube because every time I get one of the caulk gun size ones, I use it once and the rest goes to waste because it turns into a chunk over time, no matter how I try to protect it after use. I think the Rutland silicon and the rescue tape stuff is both rated for 500. Not sure 400 is good for a stove pipe application. Maybe the rescue tape would work for what you need?

Like tt said the 400 might be borderline....auto parts stores should have what you need too.

Permatex ultra's are rated for 650°F or higher. I used ultra black on my venting before I found the Rutlands.

    Rutland is like 800°F IIRC.

Thanks guys, I will head to Ed's hardware to see what they have. I would think 400F would be fine and wouldn't think the pipe would get THAT hot, but better be safe than sorry I guess.

I saw that one but not available. The pipes are stainless steel so want to use clear silicone.
    Thanks,

You do not use stuff that can handle the normal operation of the device it is always for the abnormal conditions that you choose sealant. Normal operation is always way under in terms of temperature than a runaway fire situation. Read and follow the manual and remember those are minimum requirements.

jt is correct the black Rutland is rated 800 degrees Fahrenheit and is the only sealant I use as it remains somewhat flexible. If you are using sealant on a joint you are going to be opening on a regular basis find some self fusing silicon tape rated to at least 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

A mistake here is not as easy to recover from as a backwards leaf blower episode and can if push comes to shove result in death.

I bought a tube of Rutland black today. $4 and change. Local store didn't have the clear.

Hmmm, I just noticed the tube I bought is 2000*. Anybody know if this will be an issue?

2000*? Yeah, you'll be fine (I want some of that :D). 200* - you might want to rethink using it.
