A couple truckloads of Greenways made it to the local TSC last year. They were fantastic. Very similar to sets for me. Would buy again without hesitation.
I had very little ash with the greenways, almost identical to sets, only the sets burned a little hotter. They both left a thin coat of "white" ash on the inside of the stove. You had lots of ash...ugh, batch variance, gotta love it!
I had similar results as tt. But mine were from some time ago. Don't see these ever around here. I had to travel some 70 plus miles to find them.
Golden Fire are a Bear Mountain sister pellet. The make 3 different brands which are pretty much the same pellet. But different mills IIRC. All are 100% DF......
Few years back the Rocky's came to a Home Depot here but my old, old stove didn't seem to like them but that was then. I remember them smelling great!
I know they are both softwood, but Heartland works ALOT better for me than the Rockies. So far I think I've burned 9 tons. 7 Heartlands and 2 Rockies. Actually there are still a few Rocky bags left......
YES! Good eye Those are them. Clinkers, longer start time, and more ash. Actually I think I started calling them "Clumpers" , a large clump of clinkers. Someday I might have the opportunity to try hardwood pellets.
I don't own a pellet stove but will in the future. Has anyone tried switchgrass pellets ? A company near me makes them but I've never seen them for sale . I think maybe their entire production is dedicated to industrial heating or possibly power generation.
I've never tried them but I believe you get unbelievable ash from them. I think jtakeman may have tried them???
I have, Good heat. But really really ashy. Ash content is over 2.0% where pellets are <1.0%. Not available to in my area at a price point that makes it worth it. Just slightly shy of a wood pellet price. Timothy grass(ash content 3.0%) is also another option. And so is corn(ash content <1.8%). But the price point again. Doesn't make it work for me. Saving just a few bucks a ton kills the deal. So price is something to research. Stove choice is also limited to being rated for higher ash fuels. I would also consider a self cleaner to assist in dealing with the higher ash and crud that builds in the burnpot. Otherwise you'll have to keep in close contact with the stove. Self cleaners are more forgiving in stove chores......
