I have a bunch more people coming Sunday afternoon than I thought. I'm pretty sure we're in the 60ish range. I have two 8 pounders with a small bone, but I think I'm gonna have to make a butt run. What's the general rule of thumb? Or I can just buy a bunch of hot dogs. But pulled pork is cheaper. And better.
I would probably get 3 more 8 pounders if your smoker can hold it...2 more(1/2 pound per person depending adult/kid ratio) is probably enough, but more is always better.
Got two more, about 15.5 lbs total, no bone. I'm pretty sure they'll all fit on the Akorn. They'll have to.
I'm not new to eating 'Q, but I just started smoking, so I've not yet smoked in the cooler temps. Let us know how it went and any notice in cooking time.
no dont buy no dogs, do the butts. it takes way longer but is worth it that's quite the commitment pulled pork for 60. posts some pics please
Don't know if it will be 60 or not, but I want to be somewhat prepared. I'm sure any leftovers will be okay. Have a couple dozen dogs in the freezer anyway, just in case. There will definitely be pics. I read on the kamadoguru forum of guys having four butts on the Akorn, so we'll see. I almost tossed the warming rack, because I hate them on any gas grill I've ever had, but I'll be putting it to use Sunday morning.
Only about an hour. In my experience with this Akorn, it seems that everything cooks much faster than I expect, I guess due to the fact that it seals up tight. It takes very little air to maintain 250. I think (hope) twelve hours should do it. I'd rather raise the temp later in the cook if necessary, instead of having it done five hours early and get mushy sitting in a cooler.
Forgot to get a pic of all four, but at this point two are wrapped and in the cooler. This is twelve hours in. The two with the bones were about 200, and theyre currently under consumption
