Why is that? If it catches fire? I am not going down to open the door. Who the heck would?

If at anything. It's safer.. Much safer.... More airtight than OEM and can not be opened by an animal or child..

    JS... ;)

I would think the insurance companies would have more of an issue with 1-5 tons of fuel for the fire (pellets) than a latch on a door. Especially since the firebox is sealed tighter and harder to open than these on the sheet metal outer cover.

Thanks for the pics of the door latch mod. It's a good idea, and I agree with the thought that it makes it safer as it's harder for a child to open now.

Anytime anyone else has modded a stove(changed from original design) like don has been known to do. Forum members jump all over his chit because he's voided the UL listing or something like that. JS I'll go back to just reading.

You raise valid points. Could be different between the US and Canada as well. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask when I get my inspection after I finish the installation.

I know in Canada is when I order parts through my local dealer(Harman and other stoves dealer), you have to give your serial # so they sell you a legit part for your stove. In the US, no questions asked? The inspector might not be aware of this information, and mentioning your doing upgrades could be a big mistake.

To clarify I was referring to the door latches, not the factory authorized upgrades.

It's a upgrade that stands out like a sore thumb. Now if you used duct tape, I'm sure there would be not a big fuss about it. No holes drill and tempered with.... Don't get me wrong, the door clamps is a bright idea that works but the third party will not turn a blind eye to it, maybe.

Mad Dog fills holes in the burn pot, fabricates plates to redirect air, etc...I don't think the latch is gonna be a problem he has to worry about!!

Pics of the taken apart exhaust path from using the furnace from January until March or so. Burning pellets(Cubex), a little rye and mixed pellets/corn. Looks pretty good if I say so.

    Thanks :)

My insurance agent comes out every year and she wants me to be a consultant because of my knowledge.

I'd be more afraid of duct tape than the latches. My opinion though.

She thinks 3 stoves is to much. But after 8 years of burning, she doesn't doubt me. She loves us!

Again to clarify. I'm not saying the latches are going to fail. I like the idea and think they will work awesome. What I'm saying is, if there was a fire from some other unidentifiable source do you think they might raise an eyebrow from the mod? That particular thing is a little easier to spot then a few burn pot holes plugged...

Please don't perceive this as an insult to your creativeness.
