Last year the neighbor didn't do too bad. Was cutting tree tops that had been down about 3 years and he did it all in July. This year... Last night I was out hunting when suddenly I hear a chain saw. Yup. Just getting started with this year's supply.
You never know it may not bother the deer. I was cutting some wood with a buddy of mine years ago and I happened to look up and there was a huge 12 pt standing about 50 feet away just watching me. He hung out for a while but as soon as I shut the saw off he was gone.
Yep I've been hearing saws running around here for the last several weeks.....you'd think they could at least wait till it got a little colder before getting ready for the winter..........
I've received a long string of requests for firewood the past couple weeks......lmao Never fails, people relax and have fun all summer and come fall they have no wood. Must have never heard of the ant and the grasshopper......
Same around here; the hills are alive with the sound of music. Like the other song says:"When will they ever learn."
Maybe he's cutting for next season to stay ahead! I start running the saws around this time of year and I'm 4 years out. Someone hearing the saw may think I'm cutting for this seasons wood.
My neighbor is planning on burning some oak he split up this august. Think he at least stacked it? Nope. Sitting in a pile, on the ground, in a spot that hasn't seen the sun in years. That, and he still hasn't found that super special killer craigslist deal he is waiting for on a stove so he will likely burn it in his fireplace. Poor oak On the plus side, none of that effects me. My house will be nice and warm all winter
I see deer quite often after dropping a tree, I think they get curious usually youngsters IDK? as far as working the woods - this time of year is nice weather for me, when I hit the private woodlot and realize guys are cutting to burn tomorrow I'll have my FHC cards to hand out this year
I had a couple of deer wander up pretty close while I was running the saw last fall. They took off down one of my trails almost as soon as I noticed them. My BIL is the same way about his wood. We (I) cut a couple cords of black walnut for him this spring and I've been nagging at him all summer to get it split and stacked. Doesn't seem to get done unless me or his brother are there to help. If I was further ahead I'd trade with him, but next years stash still needs another year.
its amazing the people here are the same one lady thought she would help herself to a few pieces ,everyone around me is unprepared for anything they think my garage is an ace hardware ,they have no wood ,screws ,batteries ,bolts no nothing .
I am just getting out in the woods to start cutting 3-4 cord to split and stack for 18-19 season. Anyone hearing me out there could think its for this year. As far as deer go we have some land at the company farm that gets cut by loggers each year. If the cutting is during the bow season that's where I get my first deer of the season. They will come in to eat the tops while they are still there cutting.
