I bought my house 4 years ago and it had an Avalon 990 (equivalent of modern Rainier model) installed (not sure how old it is). I instantly got hooked and have been burning ever since. The previous owner had the sensor sitting right in front of the window/door so we too used it that way. We didn't know that was abnormal until a sweep told us it was supposed to go inside under the firebox. However when we placed it there it would take forever for the fan to come on and even then it would go on and off. So we just went back to keeping the sensor in front of the door. Yesterday we replaced the fan/motor which corrected a weird mechanical smell we had. We figured we'd try to place the sensor in the right spot again with the new gear, but the same issue happened. After 1 hour no fan. We took it out and put it back in front of the door and voila -fan on! Anyone else have the same issue? Anything we might be doing wrong to cause this? Any tips appreciated -thanks!
My lopi 1750 is similar to your insert , mine requires another part on the snap disk assembly , snap disk extender , I don't know if yours requires or not. I bought my stove used and the snap disk extender was missing , ordered it from dealer
Thank you! There is no mention of a snap disk extender in the assembly directions. We tried several different placements of the snap disk without success. Is the snap disk supposed to actually touch the bottom of the bricks?
I think those discs are not very expensive. After looking at that (terrific) drawing HD posted; I wonder if Travis Industries customer service could figure this out with an email. Seems like they must have run into it before. (They didn't invent that extender for their health.)

Just a few thought... Snap disks can fail over time. Is the current snap disk the correct one? I am curious if it was replaced with one that was close enough. A lot of times they have the close/open temps stamped or printed on them. I've heard of them set for a specific temp so it does not start too early and blow cool air before the stove is up to temp.
Yes, the assembly came with everything including a new snap disk. Re-reading the manual it seems we might be missing a piece called the stiffener. Is that a separate piece that should be underneath the firebox? Sorry if this sounds daft, I've just not done this before.
We waited over an hour with a raging fire an secondary burners were on and everything. In the outside the door position the blower usually kicks in in about 30 minutes. I figured this would be longer, but it never did come on. And again the previous issues were bad with it turning on and off.
