First one in Colorado is out of business, and now one in Wyoming is pulling out (of course the one we use). No doubt new carrier will be at a higher price. Pffft.
Got a notice at work today the we are switching from a blue cross blue shield PPO to a CDHC of some as of yet unrevealed flavor. Monthly premium went from $50 to $200, new plan covers, nothing until you pay out $3000, from 3k-8k it is a co-insueance, after that they pick up the tab. Ran a couple different scenarios through an excel sheet and it comes to 5-8% pay cut if you put it in terms of change in take home pay. Not bragging but I work my azz off for this company. To the tune of +700 hours this year above my required 40/wk. Yeah they pay 1x hours above 40 for special projects and outages, but that doesn't make up for missed family time or the added stress. I am building a reliability program from the ground up, by myself. Usually a project for a team of 3-5 people with a manager 10 years my senior. We are finally started to see gains, switched the haulage fleet over to synthetics; this reduced 3% in fuel consumption and eliminated the 250 & 500 hour services. Fuel consumption alone will be close to $2 million dollars a year. So they turn around and kick me in the shorts. frick it, I polished up my resume and sent out 10 apps this morning. My boss got 4 calls for check of references before lunch time.
Yeah I was shocked when I found out how little the monthly premium was when I hired in. Yeah the insurance is still pretty good. It's frustrating when you work hard and actually believe in what you are doing and working to make the company better, then they turn around and take stuff away from you.
Ours will go up to over $1000, for 2 people, in Jan with Anthem. With a $15,000 deductable... We are being forced into looking into ACA subsidized plans now. Don't have much faith ACA will withstand the chitstorm coming it's way. Still waiting for the $2500 savings promised...
I wouldn't be able to afford a home, car, or much else if I had to pay for the health care we have been using these past few years. I have medicare and tricare. No deductibles. Co pay for meds only.
Sell your homes, quit your jobs, liquidate all of your assets and your health care will be free, it's just that simple.
The best way to get better heath coverage is to work for a larger, but not huge, public company. 10k employess ish the small firms don't have the head count to get good rates the fortune 500's only care about the stock price you get a good pay and benfits package at the places in the middle.
