I was happy to persevere when he got agitated about the "road" we had to drive. He's a Neb. guy = flat terrain. This was a bit different.
Now I have to drive my Dad up there. If he hadn't passed out in front of some stupid football game, he could have been there also.
Oh well, as time flies... :smoke:

I'm back for a few minutes again, seems like thats all I can find....pretty sad.
Well, this is another update. I'm nearly 5 weeks into this with Dad living with us. Things came to a head last tuesday, I came home from work to the front door wide open, I ran in through the front doorway to find the first floor door to the living room closed (generally open). As I walk into the living room to find the old man and all I could smell was gas. Started to open windows while I look for the 2 dogs, the cat and the 82 yr old. Dogs are ok, cat and 82 yr old is missing, neither are upstairs either. I go back out the front door and started to search around the house, as go into the backyard I see the old man beyond the fence along the treeline laying facedown on the ground. When I got to him he was crying, saying "I thought I was going to die". So after a trip to the ER and a long afternoon at the hospital he came home with no serious injuries. Long story short brings us to tomorrow, I have to put him into long term care for everything that happened last tuesday, he put himself and others at risk with all the poor choices he made.

Sorry to hear this My IS heats my home
The saddest thing to deal with is a family member with Alzheimer's. When it gets into them doing things unsafe there isn't much option other than a supervised home.

Hang in there we're all here listening

Sorry to hear this My IS heats my home. You did what you could for as long as you could. And you tried to make it work. You don't have to look back and say "but if only he came to stay with us". I just hope you can find the help for him that he needs so he will feel safe.

You think you're taking away someone's freedom(in this case a father makes it even harder) but realize unless you or someone else in your life stops living their life to keep his life "semi-normal" two people are giving up their lives and when anyone else has to fill in for the primary caregiver.

It's a hard decision. My family did everything we could for my grandfather until he just didn't even recognize people he saw everyday - that's when it gets sad....
Incredibly taxing on family and personal relationships.

You can go see him and you'll be new friends every time you visit which might give you a chance to bury any old issues - "easier" to do that in a nursing home than walk with them for the rest of your life
