Finally got one in on trade :handshake:. Easy start stihl 180.

Think I will be giving it to my dad for Christmas. IMO He needs a new trim saw with AV.

He had used mini mac since new. Then I gave him my poulan 2000 I bought new in 1994, gave to him maybe in 2000's. Now I can get him something with AV and easy start.

His big saw to him is his 26+ year old poulan 3300 that I had to put a D-ring on for him.

Guy traded this in. If it wasnt for dad I wouldnt have took it in. But was thinking of him.

That is good you have a case for it also. Will not sit on a cold concrete floor that way.
Put some of the PS3 on it and your good to go.

    Sounds like an old barn.

I bet it will pull the PS3 just fine if the bar is short enouph.

I have been cleaning up some of my saws today. I have a bad habit of running one and then getting another one out and running it until I have a bunch of saws laying around with fuel and oil in them. So I dump everything out of the saw, clean everything up and then run it until it runs out of fuel. Today I have done a Dolmar 112, husky 455, Poulan 505, and a Poulan 3750. Still have a few more to go.

Nope built in 90's with old ideas by my dad. Family, friends all built it with no power tools or power of any kind.

    I wish this 180 had 12" it has 16".

Does it pull PS3 good? No stalling etc if not leaned on?

My 170 had a 14'' on it when I got it. When I upgraded to the .050 chain I went with a 12."

A stock 170 will stall with PMM3 .043 chain on it if you lean on it. After the muffler mod and Wt215 carb I could put a little pressure on it. I also advanced the ignition timing then threw the 12'' bar on it. It pulls the PS3 good. I tried the PS3 .050 against the .043 PMM3 and there was no difference in cut time. I bent a cutter when I was running the .043 chain.

Here is a video of it with PS3.

I just ordered a 14" 050 bar for it. Guy had 16" 043 bar with 050 chain. :picard:

So if you use a small bar on a big saw does it cut better? I was thinking about ordering a longer bar for the little Craftsman 2.0 aka Poulan Micro XXV. Right now it has a 10" bar. That is what I worked on today, changed out the fuel line and fuel filter. It is a fun little saw, and older than me!

Theoretically. You have less drag on it from less bar and chain.

Hmmm interesting, do they make sprocket nose bars in the 10" range? I did not like how the nose on this bar was worn, it had very sharp edges. I filed those down today and smoothed out the nose, but would like to get something nicer to throw on it.

But the real I crease is seen when you take a big saw running 3/8 chain and put on like 3/8 love pro or 325. Narrower chain = less kerf or smaller cutters or narrower gauge. Have to change bar and sprocket as well for that though.

Whoa whoa whoa, too much technical stuff too fast... I am a newb lol. I am still super confused about chain sizes, though I do know what kerf means.

Well there are three common sizes. 3/8 lo pro that is on baby saws. Then there is .325 on midsize saws and most larger saws run 3/8" chain. There is also .404 and monster 1/2" chain but thats not on production saws now a days so forget I said that.

Then there is gauge. Thats the thickness of the driver or the bar gap. There is three common sizes of that as well. And different size chains can have the same gauge????

    Totally confused yet?

What is considered larger? Pretty much everything out here runs a 3/8 chain
