8326 is art of a Cherry & 8328 is the main trunk it came from, 8329 is some maple after the downed cherry, 8330 is after, 8331 will take you west & 8332 will take you north so that will be work for another day.
We'll be on the snowmobiles, if I get one of these I'll be back in working on Saturdays on the sled. https://www.denniskirk.com/512380.sku?utm_source=shopping&utm_medium=cse
Nice pics. Reminds me of our old land up in northern Michigan. Mother nature always bringing in new surprises. I should probably know this, what kind of saw are you running?
You driving on top of the ice woodlands? I cant even get past the farm with the truck as it breaks through and then gets hung up Supposed to warm up this week and i'll take the tractor for some paths.
It's the same in some spots with the Rhino, the chains make a big difference, I did bring a heavy duty shovel & ice chipper just for insurance. I'll have some spots that I won't even try.
Ah, a stihl. It looked kind of red in the picture and I was wondering if maybe it was a Red Max. A new small engine repair shop I'm using is a carrier for Husqvarna. I guess that automatically makes them a Red Max dealer too since they bought them out. I've never known anyone with a Red Max so I was kind of hoping that's what it might be. Guess I could have ask that in the first place.
I did more work today on clearing trail, I took the pictures but the SD Card has gone bad. The pictures are on there I just can't upload them to the computer. It ask me if I want to format the card ( if I do that I'll lose the pics) so I'm not sure what I can do. Any good software recovery for bad SD cards I can buy, we have other pictures we would like to recover. I was able to get the pictures uploaded. 8338 & 39 are heading back in, 8340 & 41 are some clearing where I started today, 8342,41 & 42 are down the trail from where I started the day & 8345,47 & 48 are where I finished up.
Oh man woodlands. That looks like a lot of work. I have not had the chance to get out around my trail yet. But that will be happening tomorrow. I don't think I will be as bad as yours. But I know I will have some work to do as well. I was down in Watertown today and they got it worse than we did in our area. Stay safe while working that stuff. Even if you have to wait. Unfortunately, I don't think this warmer weather coming up is going to last long enough to melt much.
I hope your lots not this bad, so far I'm finding very few trees down, more the tops or branches. The Hemlocks I've seen got through the ice storm real good, the white pines lost a chit load of branches but I see the deer nailing something around the area of the downed pine branches. The Hemlock trees I limbed up early (the branches) the deer have eaten the green needles (not the correct name) already, I'll get a picture tomorrow. The trails really softened up today which made it tough going.
The trails really softened up today which made it tough going. This is what I am worried about. With the slipper snow on top of the ice, I don't know what I should bring in. If anything, for equipment. I don't feel like trying to get a tractor "un-stuck". I think I will walk around with the pole saw first and see how things are. The truck has pretty good ground clearance. The tractor does too, but is only two wheel drive and I have no chains for it. The Bobcat is four wheel with decent clearance but I do not want to take a chance in getting that heavy beast stuck. Like I said. I think I will walk around first. LOL
Sounds like a plan. Both days I would park the Rhino, grab the chainsaw or pole saw then start cutting down the trail for a good distance then clear the wood or twigs off the trail. I would walk back to the rhino then make a long run on the trail I cleared, it worked great the first day (ran on top of the ice) today it worked good but I was busting through.
Yup. With the chains you were having some fun. With no chains for any of my equipment I do not want to take the chance and be out there busing my azz trying to get something un-stuck. This is going to irritate me because I want to go in and get wood while on vacation. I will be busting some of the ice up and seeing how deep everything is. The Bobcat does have the ability to pull itself out with the hoe. It will definitely break through the ice. If it has enough clearance then usually good to go. Right? But if it is slipping and sliding on the ice that it broke through. I could see that turning into a P.I.A. quick.
