The silver maple should be ready next fall, just make sure it's SS & covered stuff goes punky pretty quick if it gets damp or sits on the ground in rounds.

I burned a few pieces of it last night from the top of a stack made last March and it burns fine.

Guess I will split this stuff and then just test it next year to see if it's ready. I don't need it for next year but it would be nice to have available for a low btu wood.

Cert, the Red I'm burning right now was put up this past spring. There's not much, but it's it's extending my fall burning. After it and the Pine are gone, I'll be moving into mostly Red again, until it gets real cold.
I put a few splits in last night along with a couple of Pine, and had coals this morning after about 9 hours. So, there ya' go.

Sounds like a great excuse to pick up a 32" or 36" bar and chain set up. If you were anywhere near me you could borrow my 32"set up. It runs great on my MMWS 461, even better after I converted to the h.o. oiler. Great score Certified106, have fun and be safe.

Well I was going to start splitting this afternoon but realized I was out of room to stack........ So I ended up cleaning the shed and rearranging it and then moved 6 trailer loads to the shed so I can start splitting this week.

It is the best wood! You know why, it's free hardwood that looks like you drove right up to to load. As far as your maple wood drying question for next years shoulder season, split what you think you need a little smaller and stack that in its own rack in the sunniest park of your yard, not next to a building. Full sun and good airflow will speed drying. I burn a good amount of maple and am happy to find it:)

Heck, I'd drop those with a 16" bar and my little 290.

Had a little over an hour of light when I got home so I was able to get some split and stacked.

After it got dark on me I used the tractor and headlights to haul two more loads into the wood shed. To much to do to little time lol

They definitely have a bit of rot and there will be a rope and come along on them for safety. Probably won't need it but better safe than sorry.

Went to work at 4:30am and got home at 4:30PM. Quickly changed and was outside getting the splitter setup by 5. Got a bit more this evening and have about a cord stacked now and a bunch more split up

You can see what I got stacked if you look closely. It was pitch black by the time I knocked off.

There are way harder workers on this forum than me, It just needed to get done. I have church tomorrow evening, then inventory at work starting on Thursday and family commitments on Saturday so the rest of my week is shot.......... Bummed I didn't get more done tonight. Hoping I can get in an hour of stacking tomorrow evening.

Before the maple I had two different types of wood stacked on the 6 pallets so I used a divider pallet so I could remove one section and not have the other stack fall.
