Thats the right way to do it. I did the same thing. I probably have 6 cords or so and just installed a stove last week. But my wood doesnt have one ounce of trouble lighting in the stove and you dont see any smoke rolling out of my chimney! Keep at it and the stove will fall into place soon enough.
Oh yeah, I would have a lot more wood processed but every October I get a call from Mother Nature that it is time to bring my crazy huge tropical plant collection in for Winter. I have to make room and rearrange to prepare for the incoming jungle!! This year I am super happy that the process happened swiftly and my house did not fall into chaos of displaced stuff. You can see just a fraction of my plant collection in the pic that shows that rounds lined up. The jungle is practically eclipsing my red Jeep.
Been to Pittsburgh a few times... is there anywhere that doesn't have a 40-50' incline? Keep up the good work! And save your money on the splitter until you really need one.
I live in part called Penn Hills, and they ain't kidding about the hill part! I like all the steep slopes because they usually stay wild and wooded. More trees around the city, more fresh air! It is home to critters, both good and not so good but I would rather live here that my former hood of South Florida. Too much cement and flatness for my liking.

That is a Red Maple - three main lobed and lots of small teeth on the leaf edge. Also notice the indentation between the lobes are sharp, not rounded as in Sugar Maple.
Here we go! Just popped in a VHS tape of Young Frankenstein that I scored at the thrift shop today, brand new still sealed in shrink wrap. All right, time for pics... This is how I stacked up that pile of ash that was featured in the Sunrise pic with a cameo by my cat Buster. I am making a small wall along my front walkway, in front of my pretty half cord stack. I also made a little stack on my porch. About the little "wall" it is not finished yet, I am gonna level it out at about 2.5' however if I made it 3' tall it would also total a half cord.
Just cut another load of ash while listening to the second half of the Steelers game. Someone else is hitting my honey hole hard! The big log I had my eye on last night, was gone today when I went back for it. Just a pile of chips... but I still cut a nice load from what is there. I am trying to get all the ash I can, now I am racing to get what I can before someone else scoops it all. From how quickly the wood is disappearing they probably have a big truck and a few guys, versus little ole me. Well, I am a determined little wood chuck and I will keep loading up hahaha. This week, I have brought home 7 Jeep loads of wood and I still have a few loads of huge red maple pieces across the street. Busy busy, GO STEELERS!!!!!
Haha, the big logs are ok. Yesterday I picked up some 24" diameter rounds the other picker cut but left. They were sooooo heavy, but I had my Stihl twisty wedge and maul with me. Quartered them up Backwoods Savage style and loaded them up. The other picker scooped rounds that I had cut, so I figure anything he left was fair game to me. Probably brought home a good cord of ash between yesterday and today. About my brick house, not sure about the insulation but it is an 80+ year old house. The front door is drafty as all hell.
