With all the hot air you expel you don't a blower! Hell you don't need a woodstove for that matter! :D

Yeah, I'd definitely like to find one of those at a reasonable price.

So, I hope the Steel has a blower option.

Just remember it is mostly a toy. Does not move much air.

Agreed. I owned one and tried it on three different fans in three different locations. Only one location did I notice any sort of heat movement and it was not much.

I bought mine more as a cool gadget, trinket to look nice. But I'm pleasantly surprised at how much air it does move, you would be surprised. When it's cranking, you can feel some air coming off it. Not like a top blower of course, but it works. Looks nice spinning too, adds a bit of "action" to the stove area especially when you have a dark burn going.

    This ain't bad, 99.

I have something to add to the blower thread. I don't want to have to depend on one (my opinion of most inserts) and I don't need or want one. But sure they are going to help move the heat around and even out temp differences.

Maybe with the stone sitting underneath the fan, that's a little more driving heat , thus you feel it moving a bit... Bet the constant heat of the stone really keeps the fan moving nicely... I'd like to have one just like you said,, to watch it spinning around from free heat!

Actually, I sit it all the way on the back of the stove, on the cast iron part next to the flue coller, that's the hottest part of the top of the stove and keeps the fan cranking blowing air across all the soapstone.

Wow, Charlie! 650 degrees! I haven't been near that. And with a cat burn...that's great. How full was the stove, an how big the rounds/splits? Did you have the air all the way closed? How son did you close it down? Loaded on a hot bed of coals?

    I'm interested.....
