I don't have a blower, but I have a ceiling fan almost directly above my stove.. maybe 3 feet off center win 20ft. I also have one small Toranado floor fan down my 15ft hallway that I use to blow cold air up the hallway and into the main stove room. When I have both those stoves going the whole house heat is fairly balanced. But, take away the ceiling fan. or the floor fan and the air doesn't get circulated as much and it definitely shows up on the temp of the back rooms and it becomes too hot in the loft/master bedroom.

I guess it's similar to a "blower system" for some installations.

Yes, but that's not part of the stove. That's just taking warm air from 2nd floor, and sending it to the 1st floor. "heat rises"? NOT IN MY HOUSE! ;)

    SAY NO T O BLOWERS!!!!!!!!!!

    :)

You are very odd and have a strange understanding of how things work.

It depends on the location of the stove. If it's in your LR and you are sitting five feet away, then no blower. But my stove is in the basement and the small amount of blower noise is not a problem. The idea is to get maximum heat to the first floor.

No blowers makes the Woodstock stoves totally power free, and also reduces the likelihood of needed stove repairs. The Woodstocks are very reliable workhorses. I don't see them every building a blower into their stoves. I could see them perhaps incorporating an external blower of some sort as an option on the new stove, if an effective design could be easily devised, if there seemed to be enough demand for one. Seems they are trying to meet demand with this stove.

Blowers are not built into a stove.

Inserts sometimes have blowers built in.

I can see a blower with a steel stove , but moving too much air with a soapstone stove would seem to me that you would diminish that nice soft radiant heat that a stone stove provides.. For some reason I feel a room at 68 feels warmer when heated by a stone stove verses a steel stove...... Thus making that comparison from my QuadraFire 5700 steel stove to the Woodstock Fireview I had or my PH stove.. I feel the stone heat is just a more driving heat... I do like the fact that with no power my stoves still do their job...

    Exactly.

That's also the reason I could never understand the popularity of pellet stoves. I can scrounge firewood just about anywhere and there are no moving parts or electrical components to go bad or pellets to buy.

Exactly:thumbs: couldn't agree more... Too me that's the enjoyment of burning wood,,, harvesting your own wood, and knowing if the power goes out, you will still be heating as usual with your woodstove.. Totally independent... worst case scenario,, no power ,,,no fuel for saws,,, we go back to the hand saw and ax... Nice knowing you wouldn't freeze to death... That's what heating with wood is all about for me.. that's the reason our second stove is a wood cookstove... surviving.. That along with our gravity fed water from our spring fed pond,,, no power, no problem...life goes on as usual..

My stove works fine with no blower.. It is an option and a good one at that.. Blowers are very simple and good ones are very quiet, reliable and disperse the heat much better.. Blowers do not complicate stoves..

The blower on this stove is secured with 2 screws and plugs in.. On my CDW it had 3 bolts and plugged in. I oiled the motor one a year with 3 drops of oil and cleaned it and it ran for over 20 years.. When I lost power during last years blizzard my house was warm without a blower but the temps weren't as uniform and this is what blowers accomplish.. :smoke:

My QuadraFire 5700 had a squirrel cage type blower that was shamefully noisy... I only used it if the house was initially behind in heat.. Otherwise I never used it... I vowed after this to never have another stove that needed a blower to heat my house...

You are confusing need versus want.. Not all blowers are created equal..

I realize that... I had a Country S210 stove 25 years ago with a regular 4 blade fan on the back... that moved a ton of air and was super quiet... Especially when slowed down a bit... I think Squirrel Cage type fans are just out of design noisy...

Actually, I have a blower right on the top of my Woodstock! Uses zero electric, makes zero noise, and blows 150cfm. See the right side, next to the pot of chili that was cookin! Yum!

Right where I want to be.
If I could find a replacement for mine, I'd reinstall it.
    Then, use it occasionally.
