I am lying hear ready for bed catching up on all of the threads from today, and I couldn't help but wonder about home heating and wood stoves. Burning wood to keep warm dates back centuries. I'll be the first to admit that wood stoves are far more advanced today, but in their raw form they are little different than the ones of yesteryear. Even on this wonderful forum, you have a wide variety of wood burning. What I mean is that there are soap stone stoves, steel, cast iron, variations of all three, masonry heaters, pellet stoves, and more. Yet after such a long history there is no one proven way for every application to heat ones home with wood.

Someone posted a video the other day about the basics of wood burning in a wood stove. Sorry to lazy right now to go look for the post. I must admit I did learn some interesting information. East/West versus North/South is a concept I've not heard before. Even this information from the Canadian's would be looked at differently by many of on the forums. Everyone has their own techniques that they've worked hard to develop.

I guess what I'm saying is that like cars, wood stoves come in many shapes and sizes. They are always vying to be the best and most sought after on the market. Yet just like a car the models range from different materials that stoves are made of, or the burning techniques to the application for the individuals heating needs.

Honestly I don't think we could agree on one manufacture of wood stoves nor the actual model. Brands, sizes, burning material and ascetics all play a role when we are looking to meet our individual heating needs.

Winter is coming my friends. Get your stoves ready for a long winters workout.

so many leaves, it's too bad I can't pack them and burn them or something but, probably more hassle than it would be worth.
    The oaks are still green

same here but the larch trees are lit up all through our region. They tend to turn after the deciduous native trees we have here like aspen and birch.

Im thinking its time to plant my hard kneck garlic but instead of spending money I dont have on hay I will use leaves that nature has left in the forest to cover and protect the bulbs.
