I don't know if this thread has been started yet, but I just lit the first fire of the season. Man it feels good! Anyone else burning yet?
I lit a small 3 split fire a week ago brought the house from 63 back to 72. I dont count that really... today was a 1/2 full stove and going to 1/2 load again before i head into work tonight. Next couple days high of 50s and 30s at night so a small fire will remain for a couple days
This is my favorite time. Small fire in the am gets house to 72 and usually holds for a couple days. Why cant all of winter be like this. Dont get me wrong once it gets cold i love having a ripping stove 24/7. But one fire every couple days is great!
Ahhhh, reality. Yep, had the first fire on Aug. 25th. It was a little cool, and I wanted to. Seems to be more of a "normal" start this year, but we've had a few.
I started a fire to get the chill out the house. I think it will be small fires every night for the next few days and we are suppose to drop to the 30's tomorrow night
You'll never forget your first fire! Had quite a few thus far, but will be reloading more often this weekend!
Actually made some kindling and brought a few small splits in but didn't pull the trigger. It's 68 in the house. Maybe tomorrow night, supposed to cool off.
32F over nite here tomorrow... Need to prep some kindling too! I remember Wading River, LI NY Octobers being friggin coooold! Of course that was 25+ years ago, before the climate was changed
Oh yeah I forgot you used to be an LI boy! Well it was cold last year but came a couple weeks late and lasted a couple weeks longer. May get into the 30 overnights this weekend but the house soaks up a lot of heat during the day so staying warm on its own still.
Was just looking at the famous "chute" again. Very cool...how many cords you going through a year BD?
I just checked some mulberry that I split last year to see how dry it got in a year. It was about 28 percent still. That is some slow drying wood!
