Well my logger buddies are in the area and I have been up every day getting a load. Firewood progress is good, with 18 loads, 6 with the help of the forwarder. Colors aren't quite at peak, but it is scenic on the ridge.
Very pretty! I've never been in your "neck of the woods" and for some reason, I am suprised to see the hilly terrain. I'm also suprised that you don't have the color that we have yet. Nice pics
Words don't describe just how steep this is. Can't blame a guy for taking a few scraps home can ya? Got about 100' of pile done so far.
I am trying to get my logger buddies to try a Husky. When they ran the ported 288XP, one thought it was as strong as the 660, the other thought it was stronger. At the Houston county fair chainsaw races, the 288 beat a new 661 and I had a firewood chain on that got 3 strokes of the file prior to the competition.
Hills are beautiful i would love to have a place tucked in the middle of nowhere looking like that. Flat as a pan cake here in farm land ohio. Although i would not like gathering wood on hills. Being flat here makes it easy to back up n load. Having terrain like that i would have a little different rig for pullin schwood
Ron, That's so beautiful!!! The wife and I looked at your pic's, made her homesick! , She's fine now…
Well there is a method to my madness. I try and get as many rounds home as I can this time of year. Sites like this one are absolutely out of the question with even an inch of snow due to the steepness. Once the wood is home I can split all Winter long and it keeps me occupied.
We were out there in January and then again in May, but it was Family business, Chrissy's Mother passed and her Dad needed a lot of help. He's doing ok for now, he is 89 and still drives…. He's still complaining about them taking his pilot's license … So now he heads out to the state lands with his ATV and terrorizes the kid's!
Kind of the opposite here, have to wait for freeze up so I can drive on the swamp then it's haul like mad until breakup, I cut buck and split the rest of the year.
I have had several comments like that in the past also. However that is the 18th load in the last 3 weeks and I have been doing that for 20 years with that trailer. It's a tough old gal. I've had a lot more than that on it when I was only going a half mile.
Hope you didn't take any offense to my comment. My dad and I aren't exactly easy on our trailers either. We've been known to overload from time to time
No offense taken. I have to tell the guy on the forwarder to STOP loading or the trailer would collapse. It only takes him 3-4 min. to load. Here is a big load when they were .5 miles away. Last winter I upped the any and got a rolloff container. Upped the anty on hauling | Firewood Hoarders Club
