Well I am still waiting for the DT-M pipe to come in. Ordered it second week of Sept. Just checked with the dealer and it is only being shipped out of Massachusetts on the 5th of Oct. Don't know why there is none closer to me here in Ontario. Oh Well
just have to wait that's all, going to burn a little wood for the early fall anyway. Getting more like fall hear now so I am going to clean my chimney pipes later today, don't really have to but the wife is always nervous. Don't blame her, it is always better to burn with clean pipes.

    Better safe than sorry. :)

My wood set up could prob go 2 yrs + without cleaning as well. I do it for peace of mind. We may have a fire tonight. It's 58° now and dropping to the 40's tonight. Fall is upon us.

I've got a forum going about a 50F install that I am doing. This is the reason I didn't go with Selkirk. My local shop can get it, but they don't stock it. I went with ICC, as they stock at least one of everything. I went in tonight after work and built the list of what I needed to do my install and they had everything in stock. I'm going in tomorrow morning to pick it up.

I wish you luck and hope you get your pipes in time for winter. As for me, my hold up will be getting the masonry up for my install.

I've never burned corn myself, but the used 50F that I bought had burned corn exclusively. After seeing the damage caused to the stove by corn, I don't think I'd ever burn corn. Now, that being said, the guy I bought the furnace from neglected his stove big time, but I can't get my head around the amount of corrosion from the corn.

You sure that corrosion is from corn? Sometimes the furnace gets rusted from being in damp basements, it is steel after all. Did you take any pics?

The guy I bought the stove from had it on the main floor of his house. As for pics, I have a posting started about the 50F I bought and am installing, I have pics in the post. A lot of what can be seen is debris from lack of maintenance.

You may be right that not all of the corrosion is from corn, just seems to be in rough shape, and from the research I've done, the general talk is corn (as well as other grain type fuels) tend to be more corrosive than wood pellets. But I'm open to the opinions of people who burn it on a regular basis.

Well I know this stove is made to burn corn and multi fuels, but I guess zero maintenance will make anything fall apart!

If you have cheap access to local corn, do a mix with pellets. Also humidity in the fuel itself will cause problems.

For sure. I'd still like to try a corn wood pellet blend at some point, but for me there is no cost savings. A bag of fuel corn at my local TSC is $8. I paid $5.60 for a bag of wood pellets.

Thanks for the chime in. Have you ever burnt corn?

I waited until it was really cold and mixed it with pellets. It seemed to give me a notch up on heat, or it made me believe it did. I have to install a temperature probe on my heat duct off the furnace to compare with different fuels & mixing.
A bag of corn is 50lbs so doing the math: pellets are $0.14/lb versus corn at $0.16/lb and if you buy from a farmer, it could be cheaper.

That's a good point. I forgot corn is 50 lb bags.

If I could grow my own, or knew a local farmer really well it'd be worth it to burn corn, even if I had to deal with more of a mess in the stove.

So when you burnt corn, did you notice any difference in the build up in your stove and vent pipes?

I can buy it in bulk from the local elevator for about 140-150/ton. At least $100 cheaper per ton than pellets. I actually think corn is cleaner to burn. I had waaaaaay less ash and other crud with corn as compared with pellets. I can, however, see some wear on the last piece of the venting, which was outside and NOT galvanized. Otherwise, the SCF and the venting look fine after one year of straight corn.

Well I finally got the DT-M pipe for the stove. Got it last Thursday but we left for the hunt camp Friday morning for the big turkey weekend. My wife and son & daughter in law, and grand daughter and her boyfriend. Was great weather and a real blast up there for 4 days. I got a ton of pellets in on Thursday as well so it was a busy day for the old fart. So now I have a couple of small projects to finish up and will start the install on the new Endurance very soon. I will get some pics up as I go along.

Cool. I have to wonder if the poor condition of my unit is purely related to poor maintenace and the fact that it lead to poor combustion.
