Well today, as usual on Sunday the wife and I hit the local two local flea/junk markets and I didn't see anything interesting until this… I paid $45.00 for it, and I didn't try to start it, it has great compression and it didn't have any paint worn on it "anywhere". I'm not sure if it had ever been ran? Don't know how old it is, maybe Thistle can give me some idea? He's the Mac man! I brought it home, put fresh juice in it… Nothing… Doesn't seem to be going through the carb, plug is dry. so I'll look at it later. I've been hitting craigslist for an in tree saw but they are pricey. If I can get this one up and running, I'll be happy. It's a cutie as my wife says...
Oh no its a mini mac!!! I have one just like it in my truck toolbox I took on trade from a friend for some work.
Least its clean You paid top dollar for it. But it looks like its in top condition..hope it runs that way.
Yep I was begging folks to take one off my hands with case too. Wished ya would have ask. Finally got the guy that bought the 555 to take it with him. Mine ran and cut and I had just sharpened the chain.
I can always make it a hood ornament! Yea, it was $45.00. If it don't run I'll throw it on craigslist and try to get my money back! I'm wondering if I do get it running, I may throw it on my ATV for firewood while camping...
The one I have needs the chain sharpened...bad. The dull chain just about totals the saw. Need to kick it on down the road. I mean wood burning pulling sawdust bad! Came that way though and just havent wanted to mess with it.
I bought a lightly used but looked good wild thing for $20. By the time I put a fuel cap , new foam air filter and rebuilt the carb with a $5 kit I was praying to get my money back!!! I did and think I made like $15 so that was a lesson
Older brother bought his new in mid 90's,used it some on his 5 acre property then parked it in garage about 10 years ago cause it leaked gas.Saw was first made in mid 80's- the last generation of Mini-Mac's,not near as reliable or durable compared to the first ones from 1968- 74ish. Really cheapened up the build quality on the last ones, more geared to the occasional/consumer market.Which in my opinion was one of the factors which led to McCulloch Motors Corp. eventually filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1999..... Anyway..... He gave it to me in March 2013,I tore it all apart, cleaned it thoroughly (was totally filthy, why people never clean their saws after use then complain later that it runs like chit is beyond me ) . Put it back together,& noticed that the clamp thing (plastic of course) that holds the gas tank in place leaked around the fitting. So I didn't do anything else with it after that. Has great compression as you can see,I'm keeping it as a reminder as what McCulloch turned into at the end.Could fix it quite easily & I may someday. But its on the shelf for now.
Heres a couple more pics, The bottom doesn't even have a scratch on it… It's so clean Well, I'm not gonna die if it don't run, I jumped at it because I wanted a in-tree saw. If I don't get it running I'll sell it, I'm sure some one will want it.
Yea they do sound cool. The one I got just needed the carb adjusted to idle and run right. Still havent got around to sharpening the chain.
A little update… I came home from work and pulled the cord through a couple time and got a "pop" or two. I threw some gas in the air cleaner and she started right off then died. So I'm assuming I have a plugged up carb. It seemed healthy when she fired and I even got it to run about 5 seconds. I'll monkey with it more in spare time, it ought to be fun…
