We have a number of lumber mills in NH - think I'm also going to call around to see if anyone is producing plank flooring about the thickness of Pergo, the current flooring is linoleum on a thin plywood backer, so if we could get close to that or same in thickness it would be very cool.

    * I hear what you're both saying about 'engineered hardwood' flooring loud-and-clear .

Drug the P43 out to the garage for it's annual deep cleaning and service. The P43 got a new auger motor and new combustion blower motor this time. The stove is now 7yrs old and will hopefully be trouble free this winter. Still have to clean out the chimney and drag the stove back into the house.

Anyone have a new High Efficiency Washer? Our old washer finally had to be replaced. I am not to keen on this thing, and have no clue how it gets your clothes clean. I am used to the old agitator washer. Heck I think this thing is smarter then I am with all its crazy electronics. It gets singing a tune when the wash is done, and I keep getting up to grab a few dollars thinking the ice cream truck is coming down the road. Then it goes into a spin cycle and it sounds like a NASA space shuttle getting ready to launch. I don't know if I should grab a helmet and buckle up for the ride or run for cover cause I'm sure that thing is going to take off. What happened to the simple old school appliances. o_O

I am on my second one, and I actually have that darn ice cream truck tune memorized. From my research, they clean better than the agitators and use alot less water. Except mine takes forever for a single cycle. OK with me since we haul our water. Check to make sure the leveled it correctly, and we had to reinforce the floor at my previous home for the spin cycles to prevent it from walking across the laundry room floor during spin cycles....

Were on a concrete slab, so the floor is good. Since we bought it in PA, they were not licensed in MD to set it up. I put levels on it and it is all good there. It does not really walk around, but it just shakes like I have never seen before. From all my research this is normal with these new beasts, I guess I will just have to get use to it! I see now why they say to have 2 inch clearance on all sides of the washing machine lol.

Also, did you buy a base for it? Could they have forgot to install/tighten the bolts. LOL I should stop talking, this would be good thread for the DIY forum :)

If I am following you correctly it is a Samsung, and that stupid tune is stuck in my head :headbang: After more research I found a company called speed queen, they will be my next washer and dryers for sure.

your good nothing to fix so I did not put it in the DIY section just sharing my frustration with the new stuff made this day and age. And your thinking of a front loader, this is a top loader!

Nice! I know who to call when it is time to redo my floors. Fortunately for you, the rate the other work on my house is going, I'll be too senile to remember who I've targeted.

Is that a Samsung front loader? I love mine, but I have had 3 front loaders. Takes less detergent (forget HE detergent - they are just ripping you off), start off with a couple tsp. of detergent and up it from there if needed. If it sounds that loud, it either needs to be leveled or the loads are large so are self-evening as it is spinning. I think once you get used to it, you will like it too (except that tune part - I just want it to shut up)

I use almost exclusively the fast cycle (27 minutes). That works well for most of my clothes (disclaimer, I'm a desk jockey - but I don't change clothes when I get home and start tinkering). Grass, mud, ash and other ground in stuff of course, take the longer cycles.

Another note to add is that I use white vinegar in with the detergent. Keeps that front loader smell away that many people tell me about. I have had the Samsung for about 5 years now and never get a smell. Also leave the front door ajar to help drying the tub.

Oh and the stupid tune is turned off on mine :)

I just leave the door open. But, I have no kids and I always check for cats (they don't go in there anyway, probably since it is in the dungeon). do use vinegar for other things - just poured some to soak in the p-trap of the shower drain last night, keeps it fresh.

I would shut off the tune, but probably forget that there is laundry in there, so I suffer with it. If I could change it on a regular basis, that would be the cat's meow!

I bought a top load HE washer about 10 months ago, as the OLD washer that was here finally gave up. I was surprised too....all kinds of weird buzzes, clicks, and assorted other strange noises. But the clothes come out just as clean as before.

One interesting thing the Whirlpool guy told me was that he was told during a training class that people today put far too much detergent in.....the clothes always have some left from before. He even said they ran a test w/ NO detergent added, and the clothes still came out clean.

Since then, I've cut the amount I use by 1/2, and clothes are clean.
