That's what I thought until I tried it.

Now instead of thinking of my wife as the person who pulls the covers off of me, takes my space, and tortures me with a back-breaking pile of jello in lieu of a proper mattress, I can think of her as the smoking hot women three feet away who would welcome a visit. All the while knowing that I can still get a solid night's sleep. And she's sleeping better, too. I'm telling you it is win-win.

Separate beds and even bedrooms are more common than one might realize.

The twin beds can be pushed together so they have their own foundations, but made up like a king so you are together. There is even a foam thing that is make like a T to go between the beds. That is one reason we have the select number. Ours is about 10 yrs old. I put a memory foam topper in the mattress, a new mattress cover, and a new air control in. Just like a brand new bed now. Love it. The combination of the air mattress and the 3 in memory form with the select number is the most comfortable bed I've ever had. I keep after the wife to keep extra covers near her so she doesn't wake me up when she wants more covers. I mostly sleep on top without covers and with a fan on. so does my lab who rest at the foot of the bed.

I learned that the first 15 months of my sons life. He didnt asleep well at all. Most nights I got 3-6 hours of broken up sleep a night.

Learned to function on about 4-5 hours of broken up sleep a night.

After the 4th child, that broken sleep became my pattern for the next 30 years, Only now leaning to go to sleep and staying in bed.

Dang, wish I had seen this thread earlier. Mattresses are one of the biggest scams out there....you used to be able to buy a double-sided mattress and flip it once in a while to prevent depressions from forming. Well, this dumbass "no flip technology" shows up and mattresses suddenly go to chite. In 2007, I paid $2800 for a Serta King Mattress from Sleepy's, "the Mattress Professionals".....uh, what professional certification do you need to be a "mattress professional"? In any event, intolerable depressions form on both sides of the bed within one year. Sleepy's refuses to refund anything despite a guaranty, stating that after their "string level" test, the mattress conforms to specs. OK pal, you try sleeping in it. My wife locates an old time mattress manufacturer in Newark, NJ. Dang things are expensive and heavy as heck, and this thing is built like a tank. We have a memory foam topper as the stock mattress is a little too firm for comfort, but you can tell that this thing is built to last.

I bought a King size Latex Mattress from Natural Latex Mattress Specialists - Sleep EZ Mattress.

They have a great return and exchange policy and you can customize firmness on both sides of on a King. I'm thrilled with it - I think Latex is the perfect mattress material. Mine was the 9" Natural Latex King for $1700.

I have a bad back and neck problems and this mattress is great.

Update: my wife and I decided to try the Casper mattress, because of the good reviews here. We are so happy we did; thank you to all who recommended it. We gave away our previous queen mattress, bought two Ikea twin bed frames and ordered two Casper twin mattresses. Free shipping (to Canada yet!) and stellar customer service. After adjusting to the firmer mattress, we are sleeping better than we have in a long time. The twin single beds also insure that we don't disturb each other through the night.

I still haven't sprung for a new mattress (haha pun) but this option is interesting. But I'm reluctant because foam is inherently not a very supportive material. So layers of latex are not necessarily more supportive than coil springs. But the modular design makes it easy to modify and replace layers if body impressions develop.

Also thinking of making the pilgrimage to NNJ to shop for a Charles P Rogers (coil + latex) model. Those sound really nice but getting the wife to spend all of those hours shopping is not her style. (Last time she bought a car, she bought it within 3 hours. I hate that).

I am definitely never buying memory foam. If you don't like body impressions, then clearly a mattress that remembers your shape is a bad choice! I know it springs back but never all the way. Plus memory foam is landfill fodder because they can't be recycled. Latex can be re-used in a biodegradable way.

That was a big selling point for me - being able to replace just the top layer. I am thrilled with this mattress, best one I ever had.

6 mo on my tufts and needle and there is nothing I dislike about sleeping on this mattress. The only thing that I haven't gotten used to yet is having to sit back further on it when putting socks on since there is not much support on the edges like a traditional mattress. Maybe I'll get the hang of it by the 1 year review lol
