Friend of my wife's was over today and mentioned she had firewood stolen from her stash a number of times, since it's close to the road. She put up a sign that said "I've drilled holes in some of this wood and filled it with gunpowder - good luck if you steal it." No more theft.
Sombody needs wood and ask me, I would gladly help them out, I catch you stealing it...... not going to be good!
while I wouldn't shoot someone for stealing. It's just not worth it with the gun nazis out their nowadays, plus I'm not going to take someone's life over wood I would certainly make sure they seen the error of their ways Reminds me of a story of a gentleman I used to help with tobacco as a teen For those who don't know tobacco when ready for market is put into bales One night he seen a truck at his barn loading up his tobacco. His barn sits approx 150- 200 yards from his house He brought out his 30-06 with a really nice scope and started filling their truck with holes. He stated he hit the windshield several times all the while the crooks desperately making a get away in the vehicle and eventually away from his barrage of bullets. He told the police he was shooting at them. The police asked if he hit any of the assailants. He told the police I hope the hell I did the dirty - insert explisatives- if I didn't I hope they come back and I'll be sure to make certain I hit them. I guess you had to be there to hear it. When told by a gentleman country farmer it sounds much better. I laughed quite hard afterwards but knew he was serious too there wouldn't be a next time for any thieves if it happened again
I hope that story is true! Killing somebody isn't justified for stealing, but putting their truck full of holes certainly is!!!
It's not exactly stealing but along the same lines in my book. I hate when those who can and able ask for wood all because they to lazy or just don't care enough to plan ahead. Being a wood burner is a lifestyle I think. You have a few dip chits in the mix but for the most part guys like us enjoy the work. It's a time to feel like we are free of the rat race and there is just us and nature. What we harvest is ours. It's one of only a few things we do that we reap all the benefits from without giving a percentage to someone else. Those who steal or don't prepare will never understand it
It's true. Alot of the older generation who live here don't tolerate that sort of behavior. they aren't shy about it either
I read about a motion camera, similar to the wild life cameras, that takes pictures when motion is detected and sends them to your phone immediately. It is a little pricey but works. The story I read, the camera owner called the police and the thieves were still there when the cops showed up. The camera took pics of the cops, the arrest, everything IIRC. I can try to find the story and the camera if anybody is interested. The story was on another chainsaw forum---Sawhawgz.

Ive never had anyone steal wood from me but Its been a concern of mine when I go away. I have a client who has security cameras on the outside of his property. There was a rash of yard thefts and vehicle break ins in our town. One morning there were some angry posts on facebook about someone who broke glass all over the kids park one night. Turned out my client caught the punks on camera stealing his wheelbarrow to carry booze in glass bottles.... He called the police and presented the evidence. They were able to connect them to the park crime and the other ones as well. They were prosecuted because they were adults, they also had to clean up the park. We all know who they are now.
I have had it taken from the spot of harvest. I had sole permission, according to the landowner, to cut wood He had leased a spot to a cell phone company to install a tower and, was allowing me to clean up the trees they cut down for the tower installation. Unbeknownst to me later was that the landowner had given others permission to cut as well. I went and cut 2 gallons of fuel and maul split it all before hauling the first load that afternoon. Worked out to what would have been about 5 loads split and stacked on a long bed truck. I hauled two loads that evening, planning on coming back the following weekend to get the rest. Man, was I in for a surprise. When I pulled in there were three guys cutting and, the wood I had left for later was gone. I asked them about it and, they all swore it wasn't them. Told me it was a coworker of theirs that had bragged about getting it earlier in the week. They must have sensed my anger and unbelief so, they called the guy on the spot. We talked and, he said he would deliver me 3 split loads. Got my name, my address, everything. He seemed genuine enough. That's been 10 years ago and, I have yet to see the first load. That's all right, he is the one that has to live with it. God Bless
Once there was a farmer growing watermelon near the road and some low life was slipping in at night and taking a few. He put a sign out saying "one of these watermelons has been injected with poison". A few days later he saw the sign had be changed to say "two of these watermelons have been injected with poison."
Leaves of fall and snow of winter do a great job of hiding set conibears laid flat around the wood piles.

The way I look at it, if they would steal firewood, they would certainly steal something of greater value or are capable of something much woarse. Around this area pills and drugs are terriable, they will still anything. I have no use for a thief. I will protect, my family, my land and what belongs to me, and have no second thoughts about doing so by whatever means I deem necessary. Like I said, I would gladly give anybody anything I have if they ask, or are in a bind, but don't steal or harm me or mine because you are to lazy to work.
