I've got that same Coleman LED lantern. It's great for camping and power outages. Used it quite a bit over the past few days. Savemoney - Hope you get your power back soon. Mine came back on a couple hours ago after going out a second time last night. Quick scrambled to wash dishes, take a shower and fill up water jugs in case it goes out again.
If we get a big wind, there will be many more without power and it no doubt would be a disaster. I've been saying we've been over-due for ice storms as it has been many, many years without one. This one made up for lost time. Now the cold is coming and will make things worse for many.
A lot of house fires here the last few days HD! People hanging blankets and firing gas stoves up then walking off. They put out a police patrol asking people to stop doing that because there have been so many house fires already.
They section off there rooms with blankets such as the kitchen then light the burners on the gas stoves. Apparently there have been a lot of house fires due to that this weekend. I can also hear the sirens all the time because the fire station is 3 blocks from me...... So annoying!
I sincerely hope you are wrong about that one Pete. Just looked and they say 6 mph tomorrow. No problem with that but it will be cold. Lansing says 5-8 mph. Thank God as we don't need wind now.
Tuesday night we could get wind gust up to 20 mph, with all the ice on the trees and power lines we could lose the power again. They're calling for a temp of -14.
That we will. We would've been in deeper chit except it got colder one night which turned the rain to sleet. Some people across the street had a limb from a big azz pine come through their roof, they had some people working on it when I was plowing.
I've heard 10-15 mph with gusts to 22 on Christmas Day over here. There's a bit of land between me and where you and Pete are so hopefully it calms down by the time it makes it over your way. I'd like to see about 15 MPH knocked off those gusts.
Ever think of a battery back up, using an inverter. Quiet & should run several hours if just running a pellet stove. How many amp draw is your stove?
dont know, i'll have to follow up on that after christmas. power company just came down in here looking at the lines. there are more trees hanging over the road, but i think they are all lower our lines are very high up.
10 amp inverter around $80 - $100 Deep cycle marine battery $200. Make many sizes. Most remote cabins have 6 to 10 12 volt batteries, charge during day , solar or generator. Use batts/inverter at night for lights , tv, phone ......>etc. In a pinch: Start the car, connect it to the car battery & extension cord to house, run/charge needed stuff for an hour or so. Will get several hours of stove time with one good 12 V battery. Many other uses. 12 VDC in/ 110 -120 VAC output
I don't know diddly about pellet stoves but, I was thinking there must be a way to power it, so you can get some to heat
Me either A built in, battery back up , like I have on the computer Would be a good feature. If not home, it still has power for a few hours during outages. Don't know how much current they need
