Ok all, I've had this under my breath and I even had a date set, but something has transpired today and I am now looking "HARD" at retiring 01 June 2016! ….. I couldn't hold it any more.. I've had a brief discussion with the second half and were good! I'm tired all, 26+ years of this. It's "NOT" 100% yet but in my book it's 95%. Ok, send it….! I know you will

Dave the other military buddies I have debated up and down about going to work for 1/2pay - because they will pay you the half to sit at home + your extra years. Do it. If you get bored they may let you come back as contractor for more money, or go be a greater at walmart

I've been playing with the math, $$ and a few other things, It seems a "civilian" job "MAY" come open when and if I retire then for a inspection position, which I'm already doing now… If not who cares, I'm gonna pack and go North in the next few years anyway. Maybe some of the gang up there will have a opening for a fat, old used retiree from the USCG driving a lawn mower or something
Way to go. you are the same age I was when I retired. I got really sick for three months. once I got back on my feet, I went to work part time. That part time job with my retirement gave me more $ than I ever had. 14 years later, I was finally retired. Had I not been injured, I might still have been working. Most folks I know do find part time work at least for a while. Some try their hands at being "self" employed. Seems to be the most satisfying part. So, will you be putting the house on the market and heading on out to the woods?
From all my retired buddies the to do list is still there because when you work you have all kinds of money but no time and when you retire all kinds of time but limited money.

you will be more than just OK. Someone as enterprising as you will always have more cards to play. I hope you locate in a place that is off the main road. room to spread out. away from the NIMBYs, no street lights etc.
