so true, and not just with construction waste. Food is the big one that gets me going. the percentage of waste is gross. I come from a family that didn't waste much at all. We sorted and used stuff until we no longer could imagine what else could be done with it. My grandparents did much better than we have.
That's a nice amount of kindling - organized too - I like it! You can never have too much as far as I'm concerned. I like using some on almost every reload, even when I have a hot bed of coals. It gets everything going faster; which is especially nice in the mornings before work. That's a nice carpenter's hatchet too - what kind is it?

My thoughts too. I use kindling on most reloads, even though I probably don't need to. I just use bark and chips that fall off when I'm splitting. A few plastic bins and I'm good for the winter, it's usually my kids' job to gather it before October. My first year burning I was trying to burn green wood and get it started with sticks that had just been snowed on - that taught me to plan ahead a little bit.
Last summer I was over to see Wishlist and he had just came from the lumber yard. He gets this stuff all the time. So naturally he made sure the trunk of my car was loaded with kindling before I headed home. Works great too. The stuff we're using right now is much smaller than what you see in the picture. Bob will be using his when he makes maple syrup in the spring. Well, he'll probably use some in the house too.
